Hi all,
Been lurking for awhile til I had a minute to introduce myself. I'm Jen from Perkasie, PA (Bucks Co., north of Philly.) I grew up on a farm and had Barred Rocks for most of my childhood. Married a city boy and 15 years later he finally realized I wasn't kidding about having chickens someday. My dad bought the coop for my birthday present (can't turn down a gift, right?) and I got our 7-year old triplets 2 chicks each for their birthday (can't take baby chicks away from kids, right?) We got 2 Black Stars, 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 2 Rhode Island Reds and I got myself 2 Barred Rocks for old times' sake :) Yesterday Willa Gorilla (my avatar) crowed, so I know we'll be down to 7 in a week or so. Kinda worried about one of the Wyandottes, too. I'm excited to finally be part of the group here and I know I'll have lots of questions along the way. Hope I can contribute a little from time to time as well. Happy Chickening!

Glad you joined us! Too bad about Willa crowing. lol
I like her (his) pic in your avatar.

Hope to see more pics soon!

Hi and :welcome

Glad to have you here!
I love the name Willa Gorilla.
Hope you find everything you need, and that your Wyandotte turns out okay! :D

Thanks so much for the welcome :) I was disappointed about Willa, too. I grew up with a large Barred Rock roo named Goofy, but that was in the middle of 65 acres of nowhere, so he was allowed to stay. I had a question that I'm not sure where to post.... if we decide to replace him ( and possibly the Wyandotte, if she turns out to be a he), what forum do I use to ask about local folks who might know where I can find a replacement hen? (Not keen on trying the chick thing again, this late in the season!) There's a local hatchery that can supply til December, but they only raise one breed and it's not one I'm interested in. I figured that finding a local chicken enthusiast would be a better option....just don't know how to go about finding them on here!

Many thanks again for the welcome. I'm looking forward to getting to know more folks as I learn the ropes!

Best,
Jen

Hey,

You can check out Where am I, where are you and find your state thread.
There'll be people there who can point you in the right direction... or even offer you birds themselves.
