I tried raising saipan this year and love them! They run up to me and are just so curious and friendly compared to all my other breeds. They remind me a little of modern game bantams as far as temperament but just in a big nice meaty body. I ordered 17 of them from ideal poultry and they were born feb 1st. They sent 1 extra and i ended up with 9 boys and 9 girls. I sold 2 pullets and we processed 2 cockerels today. They weighed in at 6 lbs and 5.5 lbs live weights and look perfect after dressing. Next time we process some I'll try to take photos. At around 8 weeks old they were still small (very sweet birds but disappointing size at that point) but then their growth really took off after that. We just fed them flock raiser crumbles and no medicated feeds or anything, and didn't lose any so they seem easy to raise, not requiring a special diet or anything compared to my other birds. For anyone wanting faster growth you could probably cross them with white rocks to get the faster growth and hybrid advantages. I love them! The weights we got are probably less than most people would get because we have sheep that get into the chicken feed if we leave it out during the day, so they only get fed after the sheep get put in the barn and then they eat in the morning too before the sheep get let out. Then just free range with water in the day.
