I notice one of my SLW pullets was a bet sluggish and wasn't eating this morning. Even when I offered her favorite treat. There is very little molting going on. Just a few feathers a day. I live in Florida and they don't molt like they do up north. So I don't think it's that.
All she wants to do is lay down under the bushes and won't come out. I think her crop is impact because it's sticking way out. She won't let me get near her for me to feel it. I don't know how to cure it. Could someone please advise me.
Thank you all so much.

Update... I finally got her. I checked out her crop and it was empty. I made her through up and all that came out was some water and a few tiny pieces of feed. When I let her down she when back under the bushes and laid back down. I tried to feed her some yogurt but would have nothing to do with it.
Any suggestions Please?

It's too late. She died at 4PM.
I just don't know what to do. She had just turn 12 weeks old on Monday.
I've never lost a bird so young. I've raised all types of birds since I was 8 yrs old and now I'm over 60. What could have gone wrong.
Very sad.

I guess this kind of thing happens from time to time. It is sad, but it doesn't sound like there was much you could have done for her. She went so fast. I think the only thing you can do at this point is keep a close eye on the rest of your flock. Is everyone else healthy?

I'm so sorry you lost her.

Thank you. I am keeping my eye on the rest of my girls. They seem to be fine, eating and drinking. But now I'm a little paranoid. What did she die of and did I do anything that would have make it worse.

If you feel like you absolutely must know why she died you could order a necropsy. (I guess some people even do it themselves) If your state has a poultry extension they might be able to help you. A vet in your area could probably do it, too.

Sigh... whatever you decide, don't beat yourself up about it. You obviously love your chickens and did your best for her.

Thanks so much for your support. I did call around to see where I could have the necropsy done but wherever I called they would referred me to one else. Until it was 5PM. I gave up and will try again tomorrow. I have her in a plastic bag in the refrig. So her body will keep for awhile.
The only reason I would like to know how she died is so I will know what to do it any of the others do the something. She had no symptoms except for the fact she would just lay down. She did not wobble or anything like that.
Her eyes and nose look clear and bright. She wasn't breathing heavy or shallow. Everything looked normal to me. I'm so confused.

Thanks again and if you do hear of someone who has had the same experience as I did, please PM or Post.
