Hard decision

I thought I would update on Ducky...

Ducky is in the hotel in the house, she is not happy about hearing the dogs or being without her friends but I think she was doing more damage to herself out in the barn. The pen out in the barn that I have for isolation she was getting stuck under the door when she was trying to get out.

She looks like she is getting slowly better when I let her out to walk or for her bath. So I am encouraged to keep trying to get her better. She is loosing weight (perhaps that is also helping) but if she looses much more she will have to go outside as I am guessing she isn't eating as much as she should because she is missing her friends.

I will keep checking back to let all of you know how she is doing.

Thanks for the words of encouragement as I really didn't want to have her die because of something I could fix.

Ducks are remarkably hardy, and I think you are doing a great job for her. There is a STRONG chance she will fully recover. They will stop eating when they're depressed or alone. You might be able to encourage her by bringing one very gentle friend in the house with her for a few hours per day. Or, do you have a dog pen or some confined area outdoors where you can enclose her with one or two gentle friends during the day?

She also might eat better if you sit and hand-feed her. Good luck. You're doing great, and I think she'll probably be fine.

Can you put one of the other ducks in with her for company? Maybe change them each day so each of the "well" ones can get their exercise, etc.

Could you put her in a dog pen and put her back in the barn next to the others? Just their sight and sounds may make her much happier....... Just a thought.

Thought I would just update on lucky ducky.

She is still limping but not as bad as before she went into the duck hotel. I put her back into the barn with the other ducks and chickens for a few days and today decided she needed a different solution. So I have fixed up a room in the barn that is 10x10 and gave her a buddy (buddy was protesting along with her). Hopefully this limits the movements but... allows her to move a bit and get better.
