hard hatch, eyes closed?

I agree! you can even add warm water to food and make a soupy mash for her to maybe get in some extra fluids!~

LOL, trust me, I know paranoid watching of chicks, lol. I had one chick in the last batch (I got it from a friend, not hatched it) and it got over heated so I was dipping it every 15 minutes for several hours until I saw it start drinking on it's own.

I know we all want everyone here to succeed! Just remember, fluids, fluids, fluids!!!

she just took another sip for me, no extended swallowing time this time. Maybe she is/was just incredibly weak and the honey and water picked her up.

My last chick I had to help hatch 10 days ago.....it took about 7 days for it's eyes to finally stay open. Electrolytes in the water and mine didn't eat for 72 hours......I was freaked out. But sloooooowly drop by drop it finally started to pick up the pace.
Good Luck !!!Your doing a great job!

She seems to be doing great now. She had one eye closed this afternoon but I think somebody pecked it. I put some Terramycin ointment in it and she opened it up after a little while. She still looks wet even though she is completely dry. She just has a couple of spots that don't want to fluff. I gave her a little more honey since my last post and made sure she was drinking. I'm not sure if she has been eating but I think she has as I have seen her at the feeder off and on and my feed is very fine so it wouldn't be too big for her.

Great news about the baby! I hope she stays well and lives a long healthy life for you!

From personal experience I say she must be extremely weak and to help her out fill half of a chick water with HOT water and add corn or kayro syrup. Then add cold water to fill up the waterer. If she isnt eating or drinking yet try dipping her beak or use a syringe, not too much though or you could severely hurt her. Good Luck and I hope she gets better!
