My pullet has a large knot on her back. It’s located right along the left leg joint. She cannot put leg down. I took her to a vet, he stuck a needle in it and tried to aspirate it and nothing came out. (I didn’t think it would as it’s very hard) He did an X-ray of her leg and no broken or dislocated bones. No other signs of illness. What could this be? What is my next step? He put her on amoxicillian in case it was an infection and meloxicam for swelling. It’s not helping.

Let me also state that the vet though it may be a mating injury. The chickens definitely only were pecking her before I isolated her.

Was the scab there before you took her to the vet? Lumps can be from abscesses, ingrown feather cysts, and tumors. How long has she been getting the amoxicillin?

I’m not sure if the scab was there before the vet or not. She has been on amoxicillian 5 days now and it’s getting bigger. I put vetericin on it last night and it looks like the scab part has softened up a little. Here is a picture of it tonight. It’s wet looking because I put more vetericin on it.
