Hard Shells and thick membranes

My hens just started laying eggs that have very hard shells and really tough membranes. Is this diet related or something I may be doing wrong?

It means you have healthy chickens eating a healthy diet. Sounds like whatever you're doing, it agrees with your chickens. FWIW, my chickens also lay eggs that have very thick shells and tough membranes. Store bought eggs come from chickens that get the cheapest amount of feed and nutrients so their shells and membranes are thin. So yes, it is diet related and no, you're not doing anything wrong.

Did they just start laying(how old are they?)....
....or were they laying eggs that were easier to open before?
