Hardware Cloth SUCKS!

Aw, poor coffeelady!

My DBF saw your post the other day & didn't even know it was you. It caught his eye & he pointed it out to me. Your poor legs! OUCH.

We got some bona fide chicken wire from Del's in Puyallup. We hope to get the run up by the 4th b/c we're having a bbq on the 5th. With greedy little pig chickens running around, we'll need to be able to put them away if they get to be a big pain.

Lay it down against the direcition it wants to curl, then it will be a lot easier.

ALSO, if you got 1/4" square please for your own sake remove it and replace it with 1/2" minimum cloth. Otherwise, the droppings won't drop through.

It's very hard to get it out then short of a pressure washer.

What do you mean by 'bonafide' chicken wire?

Can you tell me the gauge of the wire and the size of the hexagons?

Sure! We called Del's Farm Supply - www.delsfarmsupply.com - and asked if they have good old fashioned chicken wire. You know, the traditional stuff that looks like this:

We thought that hardware cloth, which tends to be all that's available at the big box stores, was probably overkill.

It comes in rolls that are 50' and 150' long, and anywhere from 3'-6' tall. You can select between 1" and 2" openings. I selected 1" since I have a little bantam. We're going to bury the bottom 6-8" to help protect against predators... and digging chickens!

We are finally starting construction on our coop and run this weekend! Reading this thread has really got me amped up for the great hardware cloth duel that I know I will be fighting! I knew there was a reason I needed a DH!!!!

At our house, I'm the one that flattens, cuts and trims the hardware cloth. My DH attaches the nice panels that I hand him. I also hold it in place, while he anchors it. If I don't have another piece ready for him when he's ready, that is his time to rest in the soft cushy patio chair and sip coffee.
