Hi all,

I am trying to explain how I wanted to wire the entire bottom of my chicken pen to the guy who is going to build it. Do you just screw the wire to the floor 2x6? . Wouldn't that be cheaper and easier than pouring footers for the whole thing?

I think if he could see the picture he would understand.

Please send me a link to your great pictures... I cannot find a single one and searched even

Thank you in advance,

Nancy

If you mean to install the hardwarecloth on the bottem to be against preditors, you do not need to put it undernieth the hole pen, what ppl do usually is: they build the pen or the Run, and then they dig around it like a 2' weide x 2' deep trinch and then burry the hardware cloth covering it wth dirt, so animals can not dig and go in the pen.

I put it underneath my whole safer side of the pen. A foot underground then up to the chain link fence

I am sure it is mostly rusted now but it kept and still keeps stuff out if it is there. I have to worry more about what is above ground.

I KNOW I have seen pics though of someones that does have wire on the bottom.

I think it was a mod's coop even...The sheer volume of picturess here is amazing. I tried looking at all the coop designs but still did not find it.

Anyone?

Thanks

I installed hardware cloth over the entire bottom of my chicken pen, but didn't take pictures.

I dug down about 6 " below the level of the framework, laid the wire down, bending it up along the edges to meet the framework. The whole thing is held into place using screws and large flat washers. After we had it all screwed into place we buried the wire. Digging down as far as we did was just to have enough room for the girls to dig their dust pits, etc., without hitting wire.

Predators abound in our area and I didn't want to worry about the chickens if we get home too late to lock them in their coop. As it turned out, I never do lock them in the coop now, just let them have 24 hr access to their pen.

Sorry I couldn't help with pics... good luck with your run!
