Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 Incubator is AMAZING!

Does anyone of a reference of what a correct size air cell should look like day 7 or 8?

The 3 I put in lockdown with higher humidity turned out exactly the same... but I figure it was to late in the game to help those with the switch?

Now I’m looking at what’s left in my other incubator and I have eggs on day 3, 5, 7, 8, and day 17

It's going to depend I think...on how fresh the eggs were. Shipped eggs usually start with an air cell. Fresh, day or two old eggs have none...etc.

Here are a few digital images. The first one is the most accurate in my opinion but you will also see some variation in your eggs. You can also weigh your eggs since your encountering greater issues with your hatch. It's more effort to weigh your eggs and I prefer to go by air cell but weighing takes the guess work out of it.

These are some Silkie eggs that I monitored air cell growth and weight. Bantam eggs will look a bit different but you can also see there was some variation from egg to egg by looking at these. I had a 100% hatch with these Silkies.

Oh in my Silkie eggs that's day 0, 7, 15, and 18.

This is their weight loss progression if you want to get dorky. lol

Weighing and comparing Silkie bantam egg weight to air cell size
  • Eggs should lose 11-13% during first 18 days of incubation
  • Between 0.6-0.7% per day average
  • Measured final weight loss as 8am on day 18
Egg 1 – Day (0) 37 grams – Day (7) 36 grams – Day (15) 34 grams – Day (18) 33 grams – LOST 10.81%

Egg 2 – Day 0 – 37 grams - INFERTILE

Egg 3 – Day (0) 37 grams – Day (7) 35 grams – Day (15) 34 grams – Day (18) 33 grams – LOST 10.81%

Egg 4 – Day (0) 39 grams – Day (7) 37 grams – Day (15) 35 grams – Day (18) 35 grams – LOST 10.25%

Egg 5 – Day (0) 37 grams – Day (7) 36 grams – Day (15) 34 grams – Day (18) 33 grams – LOST 10.81%

Egg 6 – Day (0) 39 grams – Day (7) 38 grams – Day (15) 36 grams – Day (18) 35 grams – LOST 10.25%

Egg 7 – Day (0) 39 grams – Day (7) 36 grams – Day (15) 34 grams – Day (18) 34 grams – LOST 12.82%

Egg 8 – Day (0) 38 grams – Day (7) 37 grams – Day (15) 34 grams – Day (18) 33 grams – LOST 13.15%

Egg 9 – Day (0) 39 grams – Day (7) 38 grams – Day (15) 36 grams – Day (18) 35 grams – LOST 10.25%

Egg 10 – Day (0) 38 grams – Day (7) 36 grams – Day (15) 35 grams – Day (18) 34 grams – LOST 10.52%

Egg 11 – Day (0) 34 grams – Day (7) 33 grams – Day (15) 30 grams – Day (18) 29 grams – LOST 11.76%

Egg 12 – Day (0) 39 grams – Day (7) 37 grams – Day (15) 34 grams – Day (18) 34 grams – LOST 12.82%

What CluckNDoodle said!! ^^^

I do the same. I mark the air cell at setting (0) and on day 7, 14, and 18.
Sometimes it can be hard to find the air cell on a freshly laid egg, but it's there and I mark it. I also number the eggs so I can track things on an individual egg basis and keep notes.
Weighing is a new thing for this hatch, but I've started that as well.

Keep in mind no 2 eggs will track the same nor will the air cells be exactly the same. It has a lot to do with shell porosity. For example, at the 7 day weigh in here, some eggs lost only 3% while others lost 6%. The humidity was the same for all the eggs (though not always kept at the same level) so that tells me some eggs are more porous than others.
In time you will be able to learn to partly recognize how porous a shell is by how it looks upon candling it before setting.

edits: bad grammar...as in posting pre-coffee.

Thanks for all the references!!

Here’s today day 17 that have had a bump in humidity for the last 5 days (45-50)
*P.s my 3 at the that are day 21 today looked like this on day 20 and were alive until today*

On 7/2 and had humidity 65-75. Today is day 21 and like stated above I checked them last night just to see if they were still alive and they were indeed and the air cells did not look like this yet..

What’s your guys thoughts on the eggs that have been in 45-50 humidity for most of their incubation so far?

Hopefully the ones with the large air cell drawn down are preparing for hatch! :fl
The others look fine. Are you hand turning the early eggs while the others are in lockdown or are you using multiple incubators?

I'm not quite sure how you're setting your eggs. Do you have multiple incubators? Are you setting them in batches?...or just putting them in as they are laid?

I'm currently holding onto eggs being laid to set in a batch on Wednesday. I'll have 8 eggs that go in all at once. They will all be the same 'day' per the incubation schedule, even though they were laid one per day up to that point.
