Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 Incubator is AMAZING!

I wanted to pop in with some praise for this incubator.
I set 16 runner duck eggs last month. I candled around the 10 day mark and one was a quitter and 1 was clear so I tossed those. Everyone else was doing fine. Humidity was easy to control and keep up. I don't love the Candler option as using my hands with a flashlight in the bathroom was a lot more effective to view the embryos.
I ended up with 11 babies.
It was a vast difference from my last hatching experiences. I also have a brinsea ovation 56 and the thing sucks. ☹️ Humidity would never stay constant and every hatch had babies stuck and varying levels of shrink wrap. I'm glad it was the incubator and not me because I was feeling very discouraged about the whole hatching process.
This incubator was great.

I found this info on them: Results showed that the average weight of Pekin duck eggs was 67.5 ± 5.9 g, with a mean length of 60.7 ± 3.1 mm, mean width of 44.7 ± 0.9 mm and an average shape index of 76.2 ±1.7 and 70.9±2.8 for rounded and elongated eggs respectively.

and another site that said around 3oz.
I hatched 2 chicken eggs with initial weight of 67g. Typical chicken shape, rounded on one end, pointy on the other. One chick was fine, the other I had to cull due to some of its guts hanging out its umbilical opening which had closed up on them. I did a bit of research and found that birth defect can be due to improper turning.

So if you want to hatch eggs that big and bigger, I'd recommend putting shelf liner in the incubator at the start of incubation, so the turner will turn the eggs and not slide them. Just keep an eye on them and make sure they're turning right.

For that particular hatch, I set 24 eggs (max capacity is 22), all developed, and 20 hatched and were healthy. A number of them were 62-63g eggs. I did not put shelf liner in until Day 18, after the turning was completed. I saw a bit of sliding for the eggs, but they seemed to turn just fine. My larger eggs might have had a bit more sliding, but I didn't notice. All the healthy hatched chicks are still very healthy and were very healthy chicks that grew and flourished. Eggs from my own flock.

Hatch day started today at 2pm, I candled this morning (very carefully) at 5:30am, and could visibly see 2 internal pips (thanks to @CluckNDoodle pics) you're a bad influence btw, cuz since I only have 3 eggs in lockdown I figured it was a good chance to see and learn😉 Anyway, humidity had spiked 5% in the last 4hrs, no external pips but I'm hoping that's a good sign of the 3rd egg is internally pipping

3 pips I the last 2hrs, woot woot, these are from my own birds, fertility is low, but from what I've been told by the breeder it's normal, I've got too many hens per gentleman caller

It's my favorite thing to be a bad influence for! 🤣

Sooo exciting!! :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy

Why can't it be turned upside down for cleaning? I ask because I accidentally did this before finding out that I wasn't supposed to😬
I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm too lazy to dig for the answer 😁

All of the digital components are in the top and it's best to refrain from turning the lid over while cleaning to prevent any of the water from sneaking in there and damaging it.

Ah okay cool. I did it while it was dry, so hopefully no damage was done. Thx😁
