Harts flea an tick shampoo killed Jerry!

We get tried and true products from our Vet,,,,,,,,,ONLY,,,,,,no over the counter stuff, sorry 'bout yer dog,,,,,,,,

I thought about this post today when I took my new kitten to the vet. The vet tech was arguing about what I should give to her. She wanted me to give her a whole arsonal to prevent pests, namely fleas, that we have rarely if ever seen on our other pets. I had to explain to her that all flea controls are essential neurotoxins (natural and chemical) and they all kill and prevent fleas. Natural controls are just far less toxic.

It seems like vet hospitals (support staff in particular) are consistently pushing products that they know little about. They don't understand or consider other natural or non-toxic alternatives.

Whenever they tell me to give my pets this or that to prevent this or that, I just nod my head politely. I then go home and research all the products available and make the best decision possible. Unfortunately, you have to be vigilant when it comes to your pets health.

Unfortunately I've worked with vets closely for years and known of hundreds of dogs and cats to die of Hartz, Sargent and Biospot and Adams. They just have never been safe.

I'm VERY sorry about Jerry, really terribly sorry.

Even the best ones will kill some dogs who are hyper sensitive. Some dogs are going to hyper react, lose hair, discolor, itch or worse to any poison.

But the ones at the grocery and pet stores that are cheaper kill far far more often. Cats often die after a dog is treated because of close contact with the dogs and the poison in the cheap dog flea products kill cats and people don't realize that that's what killed the cat.

My Pyr can't use Frontline Plus but can use Advantage. That's a matter of being aware and catching reactions early ONLY because I'd seen so many bad ones in clinics.

They're poisons. Some dogs are hyper sensitive. But the over the counter cheap ones just flat kill dogs. I really have never understood how they stay in business.

I was talking to someone yesterday an they were telling me that they used a product sold to kill the fleas in your house. Apparently you dust the house with it an then vacuum it up later. I'm not familiar with the product they were talking about. But anyway when they started vacuuming it up they started having stroke like symptoms(numb, an unmovable right side). Scared the crap out of them.

I have seen the same thing happen time and time again. However a lot of times people only think of the reactions of the animals. ALOT of people have bad reactions to these products also!!!
The stuff you get from the Vet is safer than anything you could ever buy from the grocery and pet stores. (I can't get over the fact that pet stores sell things that kill pets.) However as with any medication there can always be an adverse reaction.
Also another side note when looking into herbal remedies you need to be carefull and FULLY understand how the ingredients will be affecting your pet. They can be just as poisponous as any over the counter "meds".

OP I am so sorry for your loss. Please use your website to blast this issue to the world!!! People hardly ever listen to us when they come into the clinics. They just think we want the money and keep using the bad products anyway.

oh how sad! I am so sorry for your loss. I have always been wary of those pesticide products, I do not use them on my animals. I wouldn't put pesticides on myself or my children... why use them on an animal. I guess a lot of people think that if they are selling a product it must be safe. I sure hope those companies will stop making that stuff.

hartz flea products are nasty, nothing but strong insecticide, use frontline and advantage, they work, they are more expensive but it's really worth it, i have 10 dogs and not a flea, i warn people in the aisle of walmart about how bad they can be, i was a vet tech for 8 yrs and saw horrible reactions to that stuff, i used to use that crap until i was educated about it, evn though frontline and advantage are still techniquely insectacide, they are very safe, i'm a nurse and can break down the large amounts to put on my small dogs, that really helps with the cost, sorry about your loss
