Harvey the Great is Dying. . .

I just wanted you to know that I almost got that video of Harvey "doing the deed" today, but he saw me and stopped after the "dance". When I do get it on video it will be on Harvey's new thread located in the "stories of my chickens" forum. Watch for it!

What a perfect gentleman Harvey is. No wham, bam, thank you ma'am without a little courtship first.

I love this guy.

I read this thread from start to finish one Sunday morning at the beginning of June when all the panic was over. Thank goodness it ended so well. I cried so many times as I read on. I am a newbie only having mine for 3 months but I have learned so much about chicken behaviour and the care and support that friends on this site give to each other. I am soooo.... glad that I found this site.

This was a truly emotional story and it continues in another thread she mentioned here. I too am soooo glad I found this site. I've learned so much since starting a year and a half ago.

We are so glad you are with us here too! We all have something to give and you are no exception! Welcome Here! :hugs Harvey's story continues in the Thread: Pictures & Stories of my Chickens under "Harvey the Great. . .A Great Life with His Harem". There are videos of him there.
:welcome

I'm feeling really sad. Harvey will not eat. I tried scrambled egg, mealworms, 20% starter mash, dove and quail seed and even some greens. He won't open his mouth to any of it. And he does love his girls, and they love him too. I had him isolated in the run this morning to try to get him to eat and the hens were not happy, they milled around the door wanting to get in. When none of his favorite foods worked, I opened the run again for the girls to come in. It started raining and it's the only shelter they have anyway. He is still walking around, every couple of hours when I go to check on him and tempt him with food he is in a completely different place. It doesn't look like this will end well for him. I have a feeling that he's genetically messed up in some way. :hit
Do you have any vets who treat poultry near you? I finally found one but haven’t had to use him yet. If you do have one where you can take Harvey to see them, they may be able to figure this out. I’m so sorry, my heart is breaking for you both. :(

We are in the country and would think there would be a vet to see a chicken, but no such luck. My husband found some antibiotics from a dog we had and I gave that to Harvey for 10 days. He recovered and is healthy and happy again. Eating like a horse and having his way with the girls. You can see more on Harvey in the thread: Pictures & Stories of my Chickens under "Harvey the Great. . .A Great Life with His Harem". There are videos of him there. Thanks for caring and now you can rejoice with us that Harvey lives! :hugs

That’s the best news!!! Thanks for letting me know, big smiles-
I currently have one of my chicks, 3 days old, who stays under the heating plate almost all the time and doesn’t eat or drink much. I’m trying the raw ACV with fingers and toes crossed. Of course it had to be one of my favorites! I know Harvey is a full-size (to be charitable-lol) guy but I just don’t know what else to do except keep her warm and keep offering her stuff to drink and eat. She is making it very clear she does not like vinegar water so I decreased the amount of vinegar substantially. If you or anyone else has any ideas, I’d appreciate them. :fl
