Has anybody been through a hurricane with their flock?

Luckily it appears that it won't be hitting us in West Palm Beach. We may still get hard rains and wind from the bands. The chicken coop is attached to our barn on the south side. I will bring my chickens in to my shop that is attached to the house. The duck coop is attached to the north side of the barn s they will stay there. They like the rain

This is a horrible situation to be in. Despite our tracking technology, people and animals still die during these storm. If my flock was small enough I'd get lots of water, lots of food, and pack them in the back of the truck in crates and go to high ground.

Unfortunately there will be casualties during this storm when it hits land. The last time a hurricane hit Charleston I remember how folks were stuck on interstate 26 because of the traffic. So don't wait. If the storm is near get out. Although your chickens, pets, livestock are priceless to you, your life is at stake in these situations. Above all else make sure you and your family are safe. And to be perfectly honest your chickens will not survive in the coop or if they are set free outside.

If your house is sturdy put them inside in crates, give them plenty of food and water, and get to safety. Hell can't compare to Hurricane in full throttle.
