My 11 Buff Catalanas have been laying creamy-shelled eggs that are increasing in size. Despite having 3 go broody on me (I've broken them), I get about 5 eggs a day. On Friday we were surprised to find a tiny, bantam-sized egg. At first I wondered if one of my smallish Polish hens had laid it.

When my son broke it later, we discovered that there was no yolk in it.

This morning I collected a second, tiny, yolkless egg.

Has anybody ever had this happen? Should I be worried about the hen? Where are the yolks going? Is this the sign of a beginning layer? If I wasn't slightly concerned, it could be kind of neat to offer our friends (bakers and health-conscious) yolk-free eggs.

yea it happens. My EE hen just started laying and her first egg had no yolk and was VERY tiny, then her second egg was HUGE and pretty! of corse it was white..

Another common term for these little eggs is "wind egg" (back when it was called "breaking wind" instead of the other word) and yes, we all did have a thread locked for getting a little carried away discussing the matter once! Seems like I comment in alot of locked threads!
Anyhoooo, normal to be yolkless, and happens occasionally, shouldnt be a big issue...or is that a small issue??
Too cute, arent they!! My first one was a duck egg, I thought a duckling had laid it, I was so confused! I thought ducks had to be adults, and maybe they started laying younger, then I read on the internet about wind eggs...silly me......
