Has anyone here ever had a parasite before?

Andora,
Do you know what kind of worm it was? My cats (mostly one) gets tapeworm from eating fleas. The vet told me that tape worms are in the fleas. When the cat eats them they digest the flea and get the worm. This particular cat had horrible colon problems. Got obstipation, like constipation with no end in sight. On the xrays his colon was the size of my wrist. I swiftly had to make the decision to either put him down or have his colon removed. He had the surgery, and is doing well now. I'm still battling tape worms with him. And I think they were somehow related. I wonder how easy it would be to have a flea jump into food and you would never realise it.

Imp-There's lots of nasty parasites out there. I hope imps are immune.

Same here Cally. We bought my son a puppy in November from a breeder here in TN. The puppy was itching, we thought fleas. Took the pup to the vet before we brought him to NY and the vet agreed that although he didn't see any fleas it probably was just that.

Fast forward to 2 month later. My son called me to tell me his puppy had sarcoptic mange. My dogs were itching, took them to the vet, they had it, I had a rash all over my body. I went to my doctor. I have a compromised immune system from diabetes and I ended up with scabies from the darn sarcoptic mange.

My entire body is scarred. It took 4 months to get rid of it because of the diabetes. And I'm the only one in my household to get it. It's said that people with healthy immune systems won't get it.

I tried Neem oil, a natural product to get rid of it and it didn't work. I finally had to go with pyrethrin. UGH, I hate drugs!

Of course the breeder has changed his number and moved. Nice.

Myself and my daughter have both had giardia it was horrible. First of all we had massive diarrhea. We both lost a ton of weight and felt like we had to flu all the time. We also got very dehydrated. Giardia is contracted by drinking bad water. Deer carry it in their movements and then the parasite finds water in order to survive. I had to spend lots of money to have my well water tested because I live in a wooded area (lots of deer). It was not in my well, and still to this day we have no idea where we contracted it.

When I was living in Ecuador back in the late 70's, I drank a family size bottle of Coke after a 24 hour fast and pooped out a tapeworm about 2 feet in length. Started gaining weight again after that... almost wish I would have kept the little bugger.

I don't think I needed to know that, Mahonri

but thats my fault for reading threads like this -- I think its compulsive-- like slowing down for a car wreck but for me its snake threads and weird medical ailment threads.
