You can also use a clay plant pot, the kind with a single drainage hole in the center. The main thing is to have a bright light shining through something thick enough to block out all the light except what shines through the window-hole. And then a way to set it up so it stands by itself & you have both hands to use handling the egg. You could have the window hole aimed up and put the eggs on top of it, or on the side & hold the egg up to it.
