I think it all depends on where you are and what there housed in. In the right conditions any chicken can get it. That’s why I dub mine before it happens. Cockerels don’t need to be dubbed for show.I do have a question about cockerel dubbing. From what I understood reading, at certain times of the year, cockerels under 6 months don't have to be dubbed, correct? I think it was before November, but i don't have my standard with me now.

I've always heard combs are like the wars on jackrabbits and they help cool the bird down in summer. By removing the large combs, does that make them more like to have problems in high temperatures?

Okay. That's a relief. I still want to get some of these birds after I move and I'm probably moving down where the temperature is regularly in the high end for a portion of the yearWhere I live everything has problems in summer.
