What assortment did you get ? What did you end up getting? If they were females only, did they end up all being female? If it was straight run, how many males and females did you end up getting? Was it worth it ?
Thanks !

* If you have ordered the Production Pack, Brown Layer Assortment, All Pullet Rainbow Pack, or Leghorn Lot assortment from Meyer Hatchery, I would particularly like to hear the outcome of those assortments.

Thanks yall !

I have ordered the feather footed assortment from McMurray (bantams) and was pleased...but I don't have them any more and can barely remember those chickens LOL.

I am a repeat McMurray customer. I haven't tried Meyer yet but might someday. A lot of people order from both places here on BYC.

I recently ordered the "top hat special" assortment from McMurray and was very pleased. I even got some colors that aren't actually on their website. My birds came from one of their off-site hatcheries, so maybe that is why but I am not complaining one bit. Almost none of my birds are the same, I even got a mottled houdan and 2 sultans. I don't feel as though they just threw in a bunch of "leftovers" if that's what you're worried about. All healthy and adorkable from the very beginning.

Oh and forgot to add, I got a straight run and while it's still a bit early (they are almost 3 mo), I'm pretty sure we ended up with exactly half male/female.

I ordered a straight run Rare Breed Assortment one year. I got the wildest variety you can imagine. It was fun trying to figure out what they were as they got larger. Out of 25 chicks 8 of them were roosters. I didn't want that many, for obvious reasons, so I took 7 of them to the sale barn and sold them for more then I paid for the whole lot. Unfortunatly none of the hens turned out to be great layers though. Some did alright, but I am glad I still had my good hens or I would have been out of business.

Yesterday I ordered the all pullet rainbow pack from meyers. In 2 weeks I will have my new babies and I will be back to this to post a picture of the chicks and hopefully again as they grow and have more of a clue as to what they are :)

I ordered their Leghorn assortment in May of 2012. I was hoping for some exchequer leghorns but I didn't get any. I received 21 white leghorn chicks and 5 brown leghorn chicks. 1 white leghorn was dead when I got them at the post office. I ended up loosing 1 more white and 1 more brown. Meyer gave me a credit for all the ones I lost. Of the ones that made it to maturity All where hens and I didn't get any roosters. I like Meyer! Although I thought their white leghorns a bit weaker and less hardy then other white leghorns I've had in the past. All in all I ordered again from Meyer last year in October. Also I have coming in on this February 20th, 25 of their production brown egg laying pullets. I would order again from them and recommend them to others. If you want thee best white leghorns in my opinion get them from Mcmurray. My sisters white leghorns from Mcmurry where I think just a little more hardy...

Incidentally I did get some exchequer from Meyer... I wouldn't order exchequer again from them! VERY far off standard.. but that's what to expect from a hatchery I guess.

I got Murray Mcmurray's Feather Footed assortment. (Only offered straight run.) I got 15, and 5 ended up dying for unknown reasons over the next 8 weeks. Out of the lot I got 2 Frizzles, 3 Cochins, 8 Silkies, and 1 Porcelain. Of the ten that lived, 6 were roosters:(

We also got their Rainbow Layer assortment at the same time. Ordered 25 hens, one ended up being a rooster. I think we got at least six breeds in the assortment.

We have ordered their rainbow pullet assortment several times through the years and had great success. The hens were healthy, had one rooster that was a heinous creature, a polish rooster, that met its demise for its evil deeds. It was the
free extra thingey they give you for ordering. I must say, the hens were friendly and happy.
