So sorry, saw other posts in other threads bumped, so was unaware this was not ok. I also see multiple threads by the same person for the same issue. Oh well, I guess.

And even though we are still not really sure how to remove the abscess, I won't take up any more of your time.

6 days into CANTEREX treatment via drinking water for all hens and an increasingly concentrated dose orally daily for Goober, she shook out the canker mass after I touched it during her treatment. We have also been giving 2.25 cc Penicillin G daily during this time.

This is the result... a large hole on one side of her face.

The canker mass itself. There are still small lumps of the yellowish material inside her mouth.

The open wound looks clean and did not really bleed. We administered her usual meds and then packed the wound with triple antibiotic cream, put on her e-collar and isolated her for the night.

We will keep her isolated in our small covered pen tomorrow with medicated water and scratch, because we think scratch would be the least likely to adhere food choice to the healing wound. We hope that the wound will begin to close itself up overnight, because I started a new job today and won't be home to watch Goober like a hawk.

We would like to know what else you all would do to treat what is now a clean, rather scary looking open wound. She probably doesn't have a bacterium in her body after 3.5 weeks of penicillin and an additional 1.5 weeks of oral erythromycin.

PS: her eye is completely closed because her treatment was past her bedtime today. She does not open her eye more than halfway, however her 'squint' is gradually lessening. We will see what happens now that the hunk of protozoa is out of her body.

HOLY CRAP !!!!
That's one messed up chicken my friend. The canker-WOW! I had no idea a chicken could get one, and it looks totally disgusting I might add. My professional prognosis (might as well stop right there because I usually run around clueless) is that now that the alien leaped out of her stomach, it will heal up just fine, her eye will return to normal and she will be able to resume her life as a scientist. Good work.

Excellent series of photos. Glad the med is working. All I can suggest is to keep her isolated in a clean environment until this is well scabbed over. As you are using antibiotic cream keep an eye for lose food particles, etc. getting stuck in it.

Well, I think it's a great sign that it came off by itself (with a little help from her). That must mean the treatment is working, good job. I think I'd do what you are doing, keeping it clean and her isolated so it can heal. It looks like a nice clean wound, so I'd think it will heal up just fine as long as none of the other can peak at it or anything. Just clean it each night to make sure there's nothing stuck to it. You've done a great job!

Thank you for asking about her.

I am here to let you know that Goober has lost the battle to canker.

She developed and expelled 2 more smaller canker masses, however we now think we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

We continued the penicillin injections and the daily oral doses of Cankerex and last Friday she was unable to walk. We understand that once complications from penicillin occur, we are now fighting them and not the canker.

She did regain mobility Saturday, however has weird tics like keeping her head pointed 180 degrees from its normal forward facing position. She cannot grasp long enough to perch all night, but she wanted to sleep with her friends.

My daughter made the decision to discontinue treatment Friday. Yesterday, Goober had lost all interest in food and water. Even cake. She is very peaceful and regal. She appears to be waiting to leave us.

My future son-in-law just took her to euthanize her. She sat regally in an open box on the passenger seat of his car, just looking around. I helped her visit all her favorite spots in the yard this morning.

I don't think her friends realize that she is gone yet. She will be missed.
