Has anyone tried the open-egg hatch method before? (HELP)

Hi everyone! Just so you know, this is my first time incubating eggs EVER, and just wondering if anyone has any tips! They have been in the incubator 7 days, I’m trying the open-egg method with a few of the eggs, and I can see a heartbeat in one (you can see a little red shape in the brown one.) the brown ones are heritage welsummers, the smaller blue ones are alchemist blues, and the olive colored ones are (yep you guessed it!) Olive Eggers! Thanks!

It does not go beneath the band, and I’m scared to take it off because germs. The egg carton has good ventilation, and I can see a heartbeat. Should I just take it off every day or 2 and replace it?

They breathe through the shell, covering the shell is going to cut off air flow. Just try to cover the hole.

Okay, so should I just use a little teeny bit of glue or something to stick the plastic wrap onto the shell, but just enough to where it covers the hole? Or would that be too toxic?

This method has already decreased successful hatching significantly, so I wouldn'tget too bothered about messing them up. I'd use just a little Vaseline to stick the plastic on.

The first poster is correct about suffocation.

In addition to that, if your temperature readout is accurate.. that's too low.

Are you doing anything to provide any sort of turning?

You've gotten some tips for this, but now, without sounding critical here, I'd love to know why the first time you've ever tried to incubate, you chose to do this? I mean, incubating can sometimes be a challenge in itself. I've hatched many hundreds of eggs, and there've been a couple of oopsies along the way, just trying to do it normally.

In reading your dilemma, though, I thought you could perhaps take a sterilized toothpick and poke a few holes in your saran wrap, over the top and the sides, keeping it at a minimum on the sides, only using what you need.
