Has anyone tried this?

Before jumping all over Cynthia12 about using Tiamulin, how many of you investigated it's effectiveness in treating mycoplasma diseases and other types of diseases susceptable to the product?
If I'm asked in this forum, "what's the treatment for this disease or that disease," I give the best answer possible. I ALSO tell the individual that the other option is to CULL sick birds...as I WOULD certainly cull my birds if they had a mycoplasma disease. Simply put, the individual has the choice to treat or cull. I wouldnt waste my time or money on sick birds.

I am not aware if she has had disease in her flock which prompted her to begin using a prophylactic antibiotic, and it was never my intention to "jump on her", but Jim, the only statement that spurred me to comment was in regard to her not having any issues with respiratory disease because she is using a certain antibiotic as a preventative. Well, some can say they haven't had issues with respiratory illness and they don't use that medication or any other medication. So, is it the medication? Or is it that carriers are no longer there? You see what I'm saying?

If I began giving mine Denagard regularly out of fear of mycoplasmosis, though mine never had it in the first place, can I point to the antibiotic to give it credit for keeping the disease away? That is my main point. There are so many who are frightened of disease in the flocks, not without reason, of course, considering what it can do to a flock, and without any real reason other than that fear, they begin giving Denagard or some other antibiotic on a regular basis. This issue has really been a burr in my saddle since Denagard came out as the answer to all respiratory illness, or so it seems that some are saying (not meaning you, per se).

To answer her question, VetRx is not a medication. Its an aromatic blend of oils that is like Vicks VapoRub. It won't cure anything and can do harm if misused. Love the misinformation on the ad that talks about "colds". Good grief. Some myths never die, it seems.

It's worked for me for years. Suggested by Dawg in the beginning of my use of it. :) Never a problem with upper respiratory for about 2 and a half years now.
Cynthia12 obviously had some type of respiratory disease going on in her flock, possibly a mycoplasma disease because that is mainly what the product is used against. Unlike other antibiotics, there is NO resistance to the product. We already know respiratory diseases cannot be cured, birds remain carriers for life...with or without symptoms. There is a monthly preventative dose to keep the disease in check, much like copper sulfate is used monthly to keep canker in check.
You are right Cyn, denagard is NOT a cure-all for all diseases, it's only an ongoing and continuing treatment for certain diseases listed in the links provided.

I had a problem about two or three years ago, tried the Denagard, and then started using it for prevention. I used to cull my chickens when they were sick because I didn't want to keep carriers. That, made me sick. I love my little flock. My chickens haven't gotten ill since I've used it this way. I'm confident in it.
