Has this happened to anyone's goose before?

I was cleaning out my geese water bucket when two of them came by to drink and dunk their heads in, and this red stuff came out.

I didn't notice any bleeding and I'm not sure if dried blood would even stay flaky in water. There's nothing around that would cause it if they ate, that I know of.

One goose didn't seem well today though, tipping her head back and tucking down with her chest puffed out (which looked a bit larger than yesterday but she might be chunky)

Anything at all red they could be chewing on? It could be blood or tissue, it’s hard to say. They can occasionally injure themselves if they were chewing on something sharp or caught their bill on something, if that’s the case they may be sore for a day or two. If this persists though it could be a sign of something more going on.

are you near any wildfires. We had one close within 30 miles and would wake up to red film on top of ponds from the retardant. It gets carried through the smoke and wind.
