Goose neck obstruction

Nothing happens overnight. Takes time, April took almost 3 months to recover. Different issue but they are sooo worth it. To this day and can say WERE IS APRIL? and she answers. I respond April is a pretty girl and she answers back. Geese are amazing
That is so true. She's eating a little grass this morning. Geese seem way more intelligent than ducks and chickens! When Lizzy is feeling well, my mate can call out to her, "My Lizzy!" And she puts her head up and calls back. It's so sweet. We have such a bond with them.

Every experience helps us learn more. We are less than a year in to being bird parents. Our first babies we hatched on our own (ancona ducks) in spring 2024. We've been upgrading everything for the birds ever since. They're such a joy!

Omg. This goose is definitely in mom mode. She's laying nearly once per day to try to make a clutch I think. This new egg today has calcium deposits on it, so I probably don't need to be giving her a calcium supplement outside of her layer feed at the moment.

She's managed to locate some large white stones I had in a pot bucket I had on the property... spilled them out and made a nest with them and her new egg 🙄 so I did everything I could to cover it all up and removed the egg, etc... poor girl just wants to be a mom! But they're not fertilized so there's no chance.

By upping her calcium if she was Deficient she has the chance to catch up with her yolk production. I would continue with the calcium a few more days or just give her a big bowl of oyster shell so she can control it herself. What breed of goose is she?

Okay, good to know. She's not too privy about eating on her own much yet. Just a little. Will continue with the calcium supplement, then. This is a photo of her when we took her in for her force feeding this morning. Due for another soon, as long as her crop is empty. She's an African goose.

There great for laying allot of eggs
First year girls don't always tweak every part of there reproduction system to work together till they get quite a few practice eggs out. 2 years ago I had one girl who laid all double yolks in huge eggs. Last year every one of her eggs were perfect lots of babies. Last year I had one girl lay tinny eggs with thick shells and all that was inside was a yolk by the end of the season here eggs were perfect got a few babies from a first year girl. Calcium deposits dont always mean there not getting enough some times it just getting all the parts working together. But there are other reasons for them.

Here name is buffy and one of the special girls out there. Really it was just her learning how to drop only one yolk. Took her a while I raise Heavyweights it takes them 2 plus years to hit full maturity. I used to raise geese just like yours. The mature to full production in a year can lay 80 plus eggs a year. Could usually hatch out some eggs on a young goose by January from them. She should get it by summer when she summer laying. Mine lay for 2 1/2 months and average about 25 eggs each.

I had no idea they could lay that much! I was expecting maybe 40 eggs per year tops for them.

I wonder if her behavior would be different if we had a gander around? We can see about getting one and intrigrating him, but I'm unsure about getting a male because I don't want him trying to mate with the ducks when they're free ranging... and I have a duck that would gladly present herself to anything or anyone 🙄

Do you just have the one goose?
