Hatch-a-long! ~ Anyone setting 8JAN-15JAN??

I just set about 34 eggs on jan 14th.Was not planning a hatch this time of year but my rooster got taken by a coyote about two weeks ago,so wanted to use my own hens eggs.He was a great rooster .A golden cuckoo maran that was a great provider and protector of his girls:) R.I.P Jack!I have not hatched my own girls eggs before just ones from mail order.(not too successfully either)
I will be happy if I get 1/3rd of them to hatch!

Welcome, and good luck. You should have a much better hatch with your own eggs too. No shipping trama.

I too didn't want to incubate at this time of year, but am also compelled to to rebuild our flock. This is my first hatch using m new incubator - a Brinsea mini. 7 eggs went in on the 14th. Congrads. Good luck on your hatch.

7 Black Java eggs set on 1/14 have 6 little dots in the candling we did this afternoon. One shell was too dark to see inside.

Very excited to see those little squirming things! So very very little.

Wohoo! We're growing our own chicks!

Well I have heard you have better luck with your own eggs...and they do look fertile even a week after the Jack got attacked.I will probably end up with more chicks then I know what to do with:)

Yep, you've set 34 of your own eggs, I'm thinking that your coop needs an addition! That's what farmers used to do - more kids, build an addition on!

Have you tried candling yet? You might be pleasantly surprised at how many chicks you've got growing!
