Hatch-a-long Countdown!!!

Because when I candled the tips (pointy ends) aren't filled, so, in other words, the whole egg isn't filled.

I am so sorry but I have been watching your updates and I am a little confused on a couple of things. I was wondering at what temp do you keep the bator at when they are in lockdown. Lockdown is when the are about to hatch and you dont open the bator, correct? Is that when the humidity needs to be at 60%? How low and high can humidity be at before it will harm the babies? I'm just trying to figure some things out here for myself because I am still very new and trying some ducklings this time and all 16 of them are moving around and I do not want to lose any of these little guys.

Hi Pumpkinface! I have a Hovabator 1588 and when on lockdown the humidity needs to be between 55 & 65%. And yes lockdown is when they are about to hatch and you can't open the incubator. Some incubators are different.

Good luck with your hatch btw! Keep us posted!

So I heard the peeping!!! It was amazing! So cute!

My friend's duckling pipped a hole!!!! So exciting! But I can't tell if the membrane is dry... it also made a hole along the side not at the large end of the egg - is that okay?

I've attached a pic.. not the best but I figured if it may help tell me if its dry than its worth a try.

UPDATE: THE DUCK HATCHED.

The duckling moving around and peeping away.

I am concerned about my eggs now.

As I believe I mentioned in an earlier post, lockdown began yesterday and I haven't seen a pip or any rocking. I know that that might be totally normal BUT I did notice that two of my eggs look like there is some sort of discoloration on the shell.

I'm worried because the last time I saw this "bruising," the duckling did not make it (it was about Day 15 or 16). My colleague and friend had one duckling hatch today and it was an amazing thing to see and so wonderful to hear the little peeps but I'm so worried that somewhere along the line I've done something incorrect.

The temperature has been consistent and the humidity has been increased since yesterday lockdown (I began lockdown at about 7:30am). Before lockdown all 6 were active and moving. How do I know if they are okay?

Thanks.

When was the last day you candled your duck eggs, JSelvaggi and what was the temperature through out your incubation?

ETA: One of my duck eggs also has the "bluish" bruised spot on it but yesterday it was moving and trying to internally pip, I think (and hope)!

Oh my goodness... I think I'd jump for joy if I can hear them peeping. Can you hear it even with the incubator closed? One of the tech teachers in my building is going to try and set up a web cam so the kids (and myself especially) can watch from home. Haha.

yes you can cleary hear it with it closed.

my bator temp has been between 37.5-37.8 celcius and my humidity has been between 50-60, but thats with chickens, not sure about ducks

so so happy that ive managed to get this many! 3 have fluffed up nicely and 2 weve just put in the brooder to dry

they were falling over the other eggs so we moved them as soon as they came out of the shell, but quickly so not to drop the humidity too much
