How are everybody's incubations going? Good? Bad? So-So?
Had a big scare, a few days ago we had an ice storm and the electricity went out everywhere. No generator. I threw a heavy blanket over my incubator and prayed. The power went out for over an HOUR. My Egg-O-Meter said it reached 70°F inside the eggs. I was heartbroken. I left the eggs in and candled last night, which is day 9 I think.
Every. Single. Egg. LIVED! :bow I could see the little embryos bouncing around and full of life.
My only concern is, now my Egg-O-Meter is reading very low tempatures... I upped the temp 1°F, hopefully I didn't screw anything up.

The egg o meter may be off now.

My incubator is shot. I am nursing it along until the replacement gets here on Tues. Had a power surge that has caused the transformer in the incubator to short out.

My first hatch I went by my incubator's thermometer, it was automatically set to 100°F which the instructions said to leave it there so I did. (I'm using a Farm Innovators 4250 circulated air + egg turner) 50% of the eggs hatched and I had no chick casualties.
I've read so many forums saying not to trust it, so I bought the Egg-O-Meter. According to it my incubator was off almost 3°F. So I adjusted accordingly and everything has gone perfectly fine up until now. I wish incubating was less stressful :barnie

Oh shoot! I hope it all goes well until the new one arrives :(

But if it was less stressful we would not get such joy out of it. lol

Yeah I am just in a bad mood over it. I am trying not to kill anybody.

So far, I candled some, not all the eggs. 1 not fertile and the others I could see the chicks moving around. Hope hope. :fl The days are jumping up to 68-72 degrees and nights may be 31-52. Bator is going from 99.5 to 102 during the warmer days. Since the chicks are now 2 weeks incubation, do they start putting off more heat, which makes the temp warmer in the incubator? It seemed to hold pretty steady during that first week, and now fluctuates warmer in the day and back to 99.5 in the night. what to do...Still air Styrofoam.holds 48 eggs.

Chickens are due to hatch the first week of April. I am going insane with worry. I think I have a few blood rings in there but I am not opening the incubator unless I absolutely have to open it.

My next candling will be when the new incubator gets here. Already warned the husband I am not going to sleep much until the new one is here.

I candled the shipped Australorp eggs tonight. From the 2 dozen, I had a bunch arrive broken so couldn't use those. Then I found 2 more cracked ones. When I candled tonight I removed the ones that weren't developing, so now I am down to only 5 eggs of those.

Meanwhile, all 12 of the shipped White Breese eggs that I received are all doing good and developing.

This is going to be my last hatch until after Sept. I need a break. :gig
