I have 12 chickens and 2 ducks outside. Getting 6 to 8 eggs a day. I have several freeloaders. The ones in the brooder will go outside once my hand heals and I can build them a brooder coop out there. Eventually, the plan is that I will be building a huge rabbit barn and chicken coop.
I honestly have no idea how many hens I have total...lol I get 6 to 10 eggs a day in the nest boxes but no doubt the rest are playing hide and seek.

That sounds like an awesome plan. I'm hoping to get some brooders built in my barn this year. I'm tired of chicks in the house...:lau

I lost the other auction I was waiting on. So no silkie eggs. The minimum bid is well above what I can sell a chick for in this area. so I will be setting 36 eggs this week. Then the hunt begins for what I will be setting next month once these hatch. lol
Poo.... I'm sorry.:hugs
Hopefully this batch will go great and youll be able to get some silkie eggs. I'm hoping to get my breeder pens finished soon and be able to put a few silkies in one for hatching eggs. We'll see, you know how plans go..:D

I have my mini 7 egg incubator going for a trial as well as my big one that holds up to 96 eggs. Now my husband is talking getting me a cabinet incubator. lol Got to love that he enables me. Mostly cause I ignore his firearms collection that keeps growing despite the fact he tells me he has all the ones he wants. lol

Love the fact that he encourages you to hatch eggs. Just be on the lookout when he gets you pheasants or quail to hatch, he may want to go hunting in the fall.

My 14 yr old daughter has gotten started with ringneck pheasants. She has 1 roo and 3 hens. They should start laying soon.:fl;)

We had over a 100 birds last year. Had a bird killing dog. The dog was the young twin's. Gave the child a choice pound of a bullet. The child picked pound. I wanted to shoot that dg so bad and made it clean to the shelter that the dog could not be around birds. They found him a new home. People reported back that the dog would kill the songbirds and they had to move their bird feeders. Sucker pulled chickens through goat fence.

It is ok. I will get some eventually. The one auction that I won the lady said she may be putting in some bantam eggs. So I may end up with some interesting birds.

We talked about quail and he says they are too much work. Pheasants we need a permit that I am not willing to get. So I lucked out with him.
He encourages it cause he knows it is the easier way to get certain lines into our flock. Once I have the breeding huts built and set up we will be getting me Dorkings again. like 10 hens and 2 cockerels. We are trying to pick the other breeds. He likes Orpintons and Ameracuanas. I like Brahmas, Faverolles, and Langshans. We both want Jersey Giants. I am thinking we will end up with Jersey Giants, Orpingtons, and Brahmas.
