I know Buffy does need to lay quicker, she has slowed down since it has gotten cold

The Eco comes with a glass thermometer. I added this one mostly to get an idea on %humidity....

The digital and glass thermometer are usually about 0,5F different.... so far, I have decided to follow the glass thermometer rather than the digital...

I love your candler candyman. A dual sim nokia with sub continental sims. I have a similiar phone. I will try it out when i candle. I bought one on line but i was expecting a higher output.

Question: If I free range part of the day do I still need to provide grit? There are little rocks around. I have a hen that will be 20 weeks on the 2nd of Dec. will she still start to lay even if it is cold? I feed laying crumbles so I don't give extra oyster shells, this should be ok too right? I mix chick starter/grower and the laying crumbles so she will get both.

katsdar I have 8 hens who free range 3-4 hours a day, and I have them since May 2012, I have never given them grit. As for starting laying in december I can't answer that but my hens 7 laying (because the 8th is the broody one) give me average 4 eggs daily nowadays and the temperature here is

64°- ​

43°F and that is pretty cold. I give my birds layer feed and the shells of their own eggs to them
once a week and that is enough for them.

Thanks for the info. I wish we were that warm, we are running around 50 - 30 F around here. I really don't like the cold.

It can get to -10 degrees celcius here... which equals to...... 14 ferenheight (or however you spell it). When I get chickens in the future (or hatch them now, if I am successful), I will need really good insulation!

By the way, I think a LOT of my chicken eggs are alive inside! (I candle a different one every time I turn them, so I don't go crazy from not knowing- :3) I am very hopeful as of right now
