Today I candled mine at day 7, out of 32 eggs set in incubator, 10 were infertile and 1 was early death (blood ring), I don't know if my Rooster is smoking too much nowaday

Actually he has just matured thats why some hens won't let him mount them, thats why less fertility and thats why I put 32 in there, I needed to get 2 dozen, so I get 21 till now which is not bad.
The remaining 21 chick are running inside

I hope they all come outta there all healthy.

Great pics! I'll be candling in three more days. I'll try to take a couple pics myself since I may need help to make sure I'm doing it right ;)

Speaking of Pictures.. Heres my set up.. and my incubating office.. the bathroom haha. I like it because there are no windows to let in light and i can keep the door shut to keep the room temp the same. Also I can keep the kids out with a lock on the door so the babies are nice and safe

My little note book for note taking and my home made candler.. It's a candle holder I put a flashlight in, instead of the tea light. I painted it dark blue and put a toilet paper roll on the inside so no light escapes. Can't wait till Sunday to candle!

lol It is cold outside right now. It snowed for the first time this year, and that's a sign the Christmas is almost here! I love candling eggs- it is so magical and mysterious. If it didn't kill them, I would candle the eggs every hour just to watch their progress. But I guess then it wouldn't be so exciting. On Saturday, I will probably post a couple candling pictures, since it will be day 7 then. I can't wait. That last time I tried incubating eggs, this was the time that they died- day five or seven. I think they are okay for now. I hope they make it! I hope I'm doing better with this incubator than the last one. I am not sure what I'll do if all seventeen of them hatch... I only planned on around four or five hens... XD I'll figure out something when the time comes- who knows, maybe none will hatch at all! I can only hope and wait.

Lapaysannefarm, my chicks are all due to hatch on the 15th of December- on a Saturday, so I will be able to watch the itty- bitty peeps hatch! :DD

Also, does anyone know what a mix between a white leghorn and a rhode island red would look like? I know that if the father is a boy, and the white leghorn is a girl, then it makes red sex links, or "stars." (also other names)... But in my case, all my eggs are from a white leghorn rooster, and a rhode island red mother(s). Would they look any different? Would you be able to tell the gender by the chicks' colour or no? just curious, I might start a thread about this...?

Thanks sooooo much, Chicknlove!!! :D That picture is just so cute I think I just might explode! XD No matter where I looked, it only said that to make a red sex link, you needed the male to be a rhode island red, and the female a white leghorn. I couldn't find any pictures of a chicken (or chick) the other way around, so thanks a lot! I didn't think they would look any different...And I totally agree Katsdar! I am so excited! I am going to flip the eggs right now :3
