Sitting on my lanai waiting for the morning parade by the chickens

My gardener does not like the lawnmower - he is cutting the grass with a knife.

My local young roo is watching on. Waiting for one of my neighbors to turn the boss roo into adobo so he can take over

You would not leave them in the water, it is just long enough to see if they kick, the chick like panics in the shell because it thinks it is drowning, seems kinda harsh to see if they are alive but one way to check, does not hurt them unless you leave them in the water for a while, the response should be instantaneously and should be done at the latter stages of hatch as it will not show life if done earlier. Unfortunately I did one too soon and it showed no life in the water test, but when I cracked the egg open the chick was alive I can't see anything when I candle the eggs, I don't have the really dark brown eggs guess my light and eye sight isn't good enough, don't know, hard lesson to learn.

3D....Sorry you are having such proebems with hatch. i did too a few times It happens sometimes no matter what you do..

I think i would wait until late day 22 or 23 before you float test them.I would want to be thinking they arent alive before you do it
I dont have much faith in float tests.. As kat said she did it and there was a live baby I have heard others say that too
I think i would wait until day 23.Then tap the egg and lisien for a peep or tap back.

If you dont hear one i would gentle crack a small chip of shell off the big end.... dont break the membrane I use a tweezers
This way you can see if a baby in there is moving and alive .or not

If it moves pur a damp piece of paper towel over the opening put it back in the bator

.If not you might want to open the shell a little more to look if they are big enough to hatch and if they had internally pipped then open all the way and see what stage and conditon they are in .too small or full size what .

.Might help on your next hatch.Hope you still get a hatch they could come day 22 I had one late hatch on day 22.
You never know

Ozexpat: YOUR PLACE IS SO PRETTY! We don't even HAVE grass anymore! We have about three inches of snow that just fell today, and I'm guessing the grass is long gone by now. lol You can't get frostbite if the plants are still around!!! By the way, your gardener is crazy.

I am praying for your chicks 3D. Dont give up yet.

Lorenzo had his first b'day memorial day. I just like the pic.

Our place there is really nice.being right on the beach is paradise. If I could work out how to make a decent living there I would be there full time. The gardener is crazy - but he can use his little knife and cut the grass in 4 days - the yard is about 3/4 of an acre. There is another 2 acres of fruit trees - 290 coconuts, 100 lemons and 27 different tropical fruits. I profit share the copra (coconut meat) with the gardener which keeps him honest. I plan to do the same with poultry. I am discovering a good market for birds like orps rocks and RIR polish and silkies. I will take trader joe and mutt eggs to hatch chickens for my table eggs. eat roosters and try to build up a good stock of purebreds.
