Hatch-Along - Eggs set in November, due December, anyone?

Oh I never washed the eggs. They are always pretty clean.
Good luck on your hatch as well. What kind of chicken?

I turn mine night and morning. I'll probably turn in the middle of the day too. I know the more the better.
Eggs are porous the hen secretes a film on them when laying that keeps out bacteria. if you wash them they are subject to the bacteria getting into the chick inside.
dirty eggs will hatch too. doesnt matter
Amd refrigerated eggs...i have read ppl on here who had some hatcch nicely
Some even suggest if your heat goes out and you Aare incubsting to refidge them!!(not sure why... cool in the bator or in the fridge.) but i guess they hatch later anyway.
All seem worht trying though GOOD LUCK!

I have 50 eggs that i set a week and a half ago tonight I candle them. They are due the 31st of December or the first. I set them so they would hatch on News Years day. This isn't my first go but I did build my incubator and it works better then my store bought one. I hatched all last winter all the way through until about 2 months ago and them I quit so the incubator could get repairs done on it and get a good cleaning. I have three shelves and had eggs hatching at least once a week. So it got a touch up clean but do to the fact that I still had eggs going I couldn't clean clean it. I cleaned it and done the repairs and started all over again. I can't wait until these hatch. I got 3 dozen eggs from the lady that got our only Blu, Black, Splash Orpington Rooster and he is like 30 pounds so I can't wait to see what his off spring will be. I hope you have a good hatch.
Garrison is your BBS Roo an English?

its been a crazy setting of november!!! this are the end results of my Dec 8th hatch

on nov 17 i started with 75 eggs, a week later i candled and went down to 66 (9 were unfertiled), candled again on day 14 and went down to 60 and made it to lockdown....here is the crazy part....out of the 60 eggs only 5 hatched......out of the 5, i had to put down 2 (bad legs) so i ended up with 3....two black astros and one white naked neck. i was a little concerned during lockdown cause i talked to my neighbor, who also hatches, and told me that he had a really bad hatching rate (being that he always hatches a good 80 to 90 percent) this time around out of 100 quail eggs he only got 5 and i really dont remember of his chicken eggs but it was also really low (i think 12 out of 60) anyway he said it was because of the lunar eclipse on the 28 of nov.....got a little concerned and sure enough i ended up with 3 out of 60 to lockdown. after this i decided to candle my 30 eggs i had laid on the 25th of nov for a egg sexing project i had started and again, i got bad news ....out of the 30 production red eggs i had for this project all of them were dead except for 6 which still showed life, so the project was terminated. i was so upset and decided to check my DOOMSDAY CHICKS which i set on the 30th. expecting the worst i came to find out that all 60 eggs showed life and are develping allright. so now i also beleive as my neighbor, that the eclipse ruined my hatching! since eggs that were set before the 28th failed and eggs set after the 28th are doing ok.....for this reason im calling off any egg settings until january....after the alignment of the planets and the holidays are over.......

p.s. i also forgot mentioning that maybe that was the reason i lost 2 of my old english bantams out of the 3 that were due a couple of days ago.
Seems crazy the lunar ecpilse but when you think about it the gravity change affect the oceans and lakes. No dispute..Cops say( my son in law) ppl get wilder and my daughter a nurse in peds says ppl are zonkier then too..... why not an egg?

Prince Edward Island in Canada. We can get more snow than this, but it fell so suddenly and is quite wet, so the roads are not safe to drive on.

I just read a post somewhere on here about Merek's disease and Coccidiosis and stuff, and my thoughts were- should I get my chicks vaccinated? They will be mostly pets more than anything, so I don't really care about "organic and all natural" things. As long as they're happy, I will be happy.

What do you guys think? Do they give vaccines for chickens at everyday animal hospitals/vets? Hmmm... Would they be expensive? Merek's disease is not curable, is it? I wouldn't want them all to die... Look at me! They haven't even hatched yet, and I'm all ready worrying! They might not even hatch!

I'm considering it because all my research says that chances are your birds have Mareks, its that common. The vaccine is for day old chicks. In my Randall Burkey Company catalogue the vaccine is $16.99 and it treats 1000 birds. Not bad.
Mareks isn't curable. I guess its a big deal and a lot of people say you can't go wrong with vaccinating because it is such a common disease.
I'm trying to find out all I can too because I just had a chicken die and the symptoms she showed (incoordination) lead us to believe it was Mareks.

Hope this helps a little!

So here are my day 18 candling pictures, but all the air cells of all the eggs are different in size... I stopped turning them after 18.5 days and now in lockdown. I am not sure about the air cell size, please tell me what you people think? I maintained the humidity at 38-40% now at 50% and I am going to bring it to 70% tomorrow when day 19 starts.

Lockdown:

Umm, even though this is helpful information, my chicks have not even hatched yet. XD I was just pondering the thought of whether or not I should get them vaccinated if they do hatch. I also only have about 9 eggs in my incubator right now, so 1000 vaccines is a bit much. lolol Maybe my local vet can vaccinate them for me...?

Good luck! The air cells look a bit big, but don't take my advice- I haven't gotten this far yet! I will go into lockdown on Wednesday!
