Hatch Along Jan/Feb 2014

Started 16 silkies-variety, monday 1/27/2014
This is my first hatch so it's hard not to check on them a lot. I am using a hova bator 9200 with an automatic turner. Temp is steady, humidity fluctuates so I have add water every now and then.

I breed silkies, but I just use my broody hen, I don't have a bator

We are in the same boat. Our first time and we set on the 22nd and 23rd made the incubator from a cooler my son found in the creek. We have 10 eggs in and it looks like 9 are good and 1 is a maybe. Good luck to you.

Thank you. I figured out today that only 5 have made it so far. how are your babies doing.

Day 12
I candled my eggs, one batch is doing good. I purchased the eggs on ebay. Out of 7 eggs 6 of them are developing.
The other group, purchased from another breeder and got lost by the post office. None of the 9 eggs tried to develop.
The bad eggs are in with the good eggs, for heat, I plan to remove them by the 14-16 day if they don't go bad before then.
My incubater maintains a temp. of 99.5-100, humidity between 38%-48%.

Going into lockdown this afternoon. I have 9 that are still going but I am very worried about the air cells being to small.

How did your hatch go? I have one that piped on the 19th( day (sun) then nothing until the 21st day (today). Now she is piping but the membrane is dry and I am not sure she will get out, nothing from the other 6 eggs, no piping. Although they seemed perfectly fine on lock down day. I guess i'll have to wait and see.

I had a great hatch. 8 out of 9. They were due on the 11th but made us wait until the 12th to pip. Last one came out on the 14th. I opened the last egg and have no idea why it did not pip. It was fully developed and yolk was All absorbed. Still really happy with the results. Not bad for a bater I put together from stuff in the garage.

That is wonderful Xovan, I had 1 chick hatch yesterday, this is the 22nd day and none of the others started to pipe. I got 2 buff orpington chicks to keep her company because she did not like being alone. They all seem to get along well.
