Hatch Along March 1st

I finally have a pip!

Day 20 with my lone polish egg. The only one that survived shipping. I just heard peeping :) No external pips yet but I expect tomorrow. I'm so excited for my first bantam polish. Incubating and hatching never gets old for me. And now my kids enjoy it. Got lots of eggs due soon after this one so I'll be busy, busy!

7 newly piped. I think about those little peeps and how much work they are doing...just want to help but know that they have to do it. This waiting is excruciating.

I am on the 20th day with a bunch of eggs piping. Is that bad if the temperature is at 102 in a still air incubator? I can't get the humidity higher than 40%!

I'd try to bring the temp down a bit. Maybe to 100? Or 101.0 at least? It's been awhile since I've used still air. I think you can get away with a slightly higher temp in a still air. But I would still try to bring it down some. And 40% humidity isn't too bad. Once the first chick hatches, the humidity will go up some. I always run mine mostly dry and when I see my first external pip, then I'll add a bit of water. To about 50-55%. Maybe even 60%. You can try adding a sponge soaked in hot water. That'll bring humidity up quick. And it's not about how deep the water troughs are. It's about surface area. The more surface area of water, the more humidity.

Amen...I set March 1 and NOTHING yet...had to add 2 eggs to lockdown today...badly timed staggered hatch (will be more careful in the future) and since the bator had to open why not candle, right? Everyone was alive and kicking but only 1 internal pip. Ugh...SO hard to be patient!

Had one external pip when I went to bed last night and woke up to this:
Congrats!

With my still air I kept my temps between 99-102 the entire time. But dropped it to 99-100 during lockdown (I had a few blood rings and suspected hot spots were to blame). I had my first one hatch on day 20.5 (yesterday). I could not get my humidity higher than 40% either but once they started hatching it went up into the 60's and has stayed there since. Hope that helps you some.

I know how you feel! I had my first one pip the wrong end and actually had to wait to intervene. I ended up having to do it but the wait was awful. I just felt so bad for it. Here is what happened...

Talk about a waiting game!
