Hatch-Along - Setting eggs on 2/8/13 Anyone want to join me?

After the loss of one bird last night, I have a total of 16 hatched, one pipping and one zipped.

There are a couple eggs in question but it's only day 22.

So far a very good hatch out of the 21 put in lock-down. The chirping is driving the cats insane.

Just now got the call from the post office, 75 broilers have arrived...

Brooder madness is about to set in.

Ok, have 17 out of my 21 hatched out a fluffing up... Just got back from the post office with 77 Red Rangers and Barred Rock cockerals.

I usually brood in the milk house but decided to utilize the garage to help with the temps.. It absolutely is echoeing with peeps..

No matter how much I have gone thru the cycle of raising chickens, I never get tired of the peeps.

Of course, I'll have grade A poop machines here in a week or so.. I have three weeks to get the temporary brooder/coop ready in the main barn. I have a several hundred sq. ft. coop on the back of the barn but going to range these so going to give them 400 sq ft in the barn with a 600 sq ft run on the north side. Good thing my nearest neighbor is a half mile one way and a 1/4 mile in the other direction...

I had 10 of 11 hatch, last night I opened up the egg that did not pip. There was a fully developed chick but it was DIS, I was not one of my 3 week old fridge eggs either, don't know what happened to it just weak I guess. All the others are doing great. Here they are..

Thanks for the replies guys...  I let nature take its course with her; however, the poor little thing didn't make it...

:( Wow...I'm sorry to hear that. Musta been a preemie or something?

She was a pullet egg, didn't know how well they would do.. I only set 8 pullets eggs to start with the rest were from my1 year olds.. It stinks but overall a really good hatch...
The other 77 are broiler chickens, have freezer's to fill.. having said that, they are still danged cute. :)

Oh? Ok, this I know nothing about...my girls were born memorial day last year...was I not supposed to hatch their eggs? like 8-9 month old hens.... One had gone broody in November, and would have hatched her own if I let her....

It's just with the younger pullets I believe there may be more issues, most all the others hatched just fine. I was just very selective with the eggs i pulled from the pullet coop, not to small, not to big, most right in the midsize range with good shape and no hair line cracks. My older ones all did just fine.

Thanks...my girls have been laying eggs for months, pretty consistent in size and shape, so I guess it's ok then... the 11 healthy chicks think so too lol
