Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

I've never done banties, but if they're anything like standard chickens, temp seems good! If you're hearing chirping, they have internally pipped! Good news! I would think that keeping humidity @ 65% or higher would be perfect. Once a few hatch out, this will help increase humidity & more will be popping right along! Before lockdown, I had a small sponge under each air vent. I used a straw & small syringe to get HOT water in there when humidity went low. Day of lockdown, I put damp dishcloth in microwave to get hot and placed it down in one corner. That gets humidity up FAST & HIGH! I monitored it a lot! With air vents open, it's just a matter of time before humidity drops again. I stayed on top of it with a bowl full of nuked water (not boiling) as needed, drawing it up with syringe then thru straw, down onto sponges +/or cloth. My unit is a bit temperamental, so I monitor it a LOT! Just me!

I see he is training her already.... he'll have his 'parrot' to ride around on his shoulder like my guy does!

Sorry to hear about the fluid in the air cell. I've never seen that before.

A third chick has hatched!

I'm already getting confused about the breeds! The eggs aren't labeled, and now I'm not sure which chick is a BCM, and which is Golden Cuckoo Maran. The BCM I hatched last year were all solid black with a hint of copper around the face. But the chick that just hatched is black with a bright yellow mask, like a fuzzy little bandit. Could this be a BCM? Anyone know? The 2nd chick that hatched is mostly copper with black on the back. Golden Cuckoo?

Or, maybe the guy gave me some mystery Maran eggs. He didn't tell me what the extras were. This is going to make things tricky when I decide which chicks to sell.

Sounds like both your black ones are BCMs but youd have to post a pic. The brown or copper on the face I believe is called mossy and I think is not ideal on a BCM the yellow on the face seems accurate for a BCM(dont hold me to it I am new to Marans) Let me see if I can find my BCMs baby pics.

These are my 3 BCMS (yes even the light colored one turned out to be a BCM) the one laying down in the fist pic is a blue cooper marans.
My chicks colors vary so much I am probably of no help for you to figure your chicks colors out

We just went on lockdown this morning. I have one bowl of hot water and one wet sponge in there. How fast should the humidity go up? I have both air vents open. I was afraid of the chicks not getting enough oxygen and suffocating. I don't have a lot of room in there because I am doing a staggered hatch and had to leave two rows of the turner in. Does anyone think I should add another sponge, or a warm wet cloth? So many questions! lol.
