Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

Well bad news, after everything, I just found my tiny Jaylee dead in the brooder : (
was alive 30 mins ago when I last looked
no obvious cause, could have gotten injured by the larger silkies is some non visible way,
or maybe even w/ the hand feeding it still wasn't getting enough,
or it might have had some other issue (it sure had not appeared to grow any since hatching 6 days ago).

I'm seriously frustrated.
That is so sad! I wonder what happened? I bet you are frustrated. At least you have a couple more chicks now that are thriving. I'm sure it still doesn't make you feel any better though :(,

Me and dblea202 have our second pip!!!!

So its been about 3 hours since our first pip and this little chick is going crazy trying to get out! He/she is making so much noise and wobbling like crazy he/she really wants pout!! Our second one is resting after pipping an hour ago

I hope they do well for you!! Pics of your new silkie cross??
Here is a pic of my new silkie cross. The pic is not great as she is so much more pretty in person. She was rehomed to me from a fellow BYC member. She lays a pretty GREEN egg

Is it ok if I slightly staggered my hatch?

I set 9 eggs yesterday morn
2 eggs yesterday late afternoon
and 2 eggs this morn

Those are all pretty close that it should be a problem at lockdown right?

My official hatch count ended up being 14 with 12 survivors. I had a late hatch Sunday night/early Monday morning and the poor little thing was just laying on its side struggling to breath and clicking. Time for me to decide which 4 chicks we are going to keep and sell off the others. Thanks to all of you for not only the support but the education for my first hatching! I think I'm going to wait a few months before I try this again!

Saddly, my final count from this hatch is ZERO : (

The 2 ducks passed today, one I tried to assist , one I did not, outcome the same.
All the fertile eggs developed, & were alive at lockdown, the only one that made it out of egg was little Jaylee who died of no apparent cause 6 Days old.
That was 12 chicken & 7 duck eggs overall.

So officially, this one was worse than my 2/23 from NYDH which I thought was pretty terrible.

The good news is those 2 birds, Beeker & Kandy Kane, are huge well feathered 4 weeks old today, and moved to
an outdoor brooder that is large enough for them to fly around, yet still mostly enclosed w/ a heat lamp to ensure they do ok outside.
I had weaned them off the heat this week indoors, so they are fine to 65F w/o heat, and this week the forecast here is pretty mild,
50-60 days w/ just above freezing overnight, so w/ the option perch in the beam of the heatlamp which is also aimed at a large rock under the perch
for radiant heat, they should be quite happy.

The Buckeye Hen AND the Pullet layed again today, so saving eggs to see if the LG does better than the coolerbator....
