Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

We set 28 eggs this morning! Here we go, round two! We also have a broody hen that has been sitting on eggs for 7 days now. I have this strange suspicion that she is stealing eggs from the other nest boxes. Everyday there are more that I have to remove. How would a hen "steal" eggs. I haven't seen any of the other hens laying in her box. She hardly leaves it herself.
You would be amazed, I had a game-ish black hen go broody in a 5 gal bucket on it's side next to another one & when the other hen laid in the bucket beside her she cleverly patiently rolled the new egg over to her pile, it took me a few days to catch her in the act & then she had put so much work into I just let her keep the extra eggs to sit.

My apologies I read that wrong. I ordered EEs, cuckoo Marans and Sussex

well that should be a fun mix of colors, both in the birds and later their eggs.
You of course must post pics when they arrive...

I caught our silkie in the act of moving eggs from one box to another before I put her into her own broody box.... she rolled and pulled and rolled and at one point picked the egg up by pinning it against her chest with the underside of her beak for a quick lift. It is a wonder she didn't drop or break any, but I never found any damaged ones. After watching some of her antics I will never doubt the abilities of a determined broody to accomplish anything!

Other hens may actually be laying on top of the broody while she holds her ground and refuses to move from her nest... I have seen two hens in the same box numerous times, they can be weird sometimes, that's for sure!

Of course! :) That's what I was going for was the rainbow of eggs and pretty birds. I love my chickens!! Now if I can just keep my nose out of my incubator and broody hen for the next few days...eeek I'm so excited!!
