Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

Im not 100% on what im going to do. Ive read so much from 3 days to 5 days some say 7 and even 10 days of no turning on shipped eggs. Im nervous to let them sit for too long But I think Im going to go with 5 days of no turning and then I will candle on day 7. Im very excited to have the duck eggs join also itll be fun to watch. Im doing turkey eggs come spring which is the main reason I got my incubator but these days I think id like to hatch just about anything. My concern is hatching more than I can house or sell. I am already taking to hubby about letting me build coop num 5 for all my new hatchling. I already named it, The Rainbow Lair. Itll be for my my crazy colorful assortments of rainbow layers lol. He thought it was funny so I think hes in, YES!

I'm setting 60 coturnix quail eggs tonight. I have an LG still air and a styrofoam cooler bator that I just threw together this weekend that is still air also.

I would like to join you guys on this hatch!

I was hatching in a brinsea adv mini and I LOVE that incubator, unfortunately after 3 years the computer went I suppose. I quickly put together a cooler bator and finished that hatch, ending up with 2 chicks! I put 21 eggs in my cooler bator for the NYD hatch and had dismal results. I have about 6 thermometers and all temps were different and I had hot spots in the bator. I had many clears (not a surprise) and way too many late quiters!

I decided I would convert a very large chest into a bator, using dual light bulbs to avoid hot spots for now. In the future I plan to buy an incu kit from incubator warehouse.

So far temp is good, holding just under 100. I'm trusting my small fish tank thermometer inside a baggie of water on this one. The digital ones are too quick to change temp so I can't tell by using them what the average temp is. I sure wish they made bigger thermometers with greater temp detail on them!

So for now I have a dozen eggs plus a few, will count them up later. These are all home grown eggs so I am turning right away. And thats another thing I plan to add in the future is an auto turner, for now I have them on a roller that I move by hand from outside the bator.

So good luck to all, should be fun!

You could call brinsea about shipping the bator back and replaceing the circut board ??
What are you gonna do with that many quail lol ?
Im still so excited about my big fat beutifull orpintion eggs and my bob white and my store bought eggs lol I am gonna put some quail eggs in tammrow I think as they hatch around day 18 and its been a few day since I set the 21 day chicken eggs.

I let my eggs sit for about 12 hours then put them in the incubator, auto turning every 3 hours. We'll see what happens. All of the air cells are attached and appeared to have yolks all intact. Just keeping my fingers crossed. :)

We set 45 rose comb Rhode Island reds yesterday. Hoping for better success than I had in the NYD hatch! We have 4 chicks out of 45, but I learned I had them upside down in the turner.
