Just since I wrote this I decided on a doz more BCM to hatch. I have 4 hens but only 2 lay the darker eggs. So I only incubate them. I just sold all of the ones that I've hatched so far, leaving me with no BCM babies. I'm thinking of driving up to A & J Poultry to get some Buff Orpingtons. (and maybe 2 gray slate poults, if DH isn't looking)

ah ha ha ! me too ... this am my DH handed me breadfast in bed then somewhat calmly pointed out that I have 57 chickens *IN & around the house, meaning not in the actual poultry area up near the barn or the other one near the garden. My reply was something along the lines of "oooo the blueberry pancakes look great, wow really?? I hadn't counted, gosh the coffee is hot, thanks!"

Well coop building has been going on since yesterday. we have everything prett much ready for assembling. all thats left is doing the doors and the nesting boxes and painting. so hopefulyl one more weekend of work and the girls will be able to move into the new coop so exciting!! I will post some pictures later

well we had a slight set back with the coop building. one wall got cut wrong but hopefully we cna still get it finished today if not then definitely tomorrow.

tomorrow is also lockdown for our first set of eggs which look prett good and should be on time at day 14 candling they were very dark and prett well filled the egg. so hopefully some chicks by tuesday...we have another batch of eggs due on friday so they are a few days apart...so how should we go about doing the lockdown with the first set of eggs?

Here are pictures of the 9 I had hatch in one group.

The lemon ones are Salmon Fav. - I'm really hoping a pair.

The top hat is a fancy polish named Leslie

The black is a mixed EE from my flock

The rest are adorable owl looking EE from a friend's flock, all from sky blues eggs & the roo is wheaten so looks like they will be also.l..

Additionally I had another hatch 5 of my own eggs

This one was a big deal b/c after 2 months of failed eggs from my mint green daily layer EE Ugly (under the pure Ameracauna Roo)
I actually had 2 hatch in this setting, along w/ the first egg I set from my JG Dilly under that same Roo.

I also got 2 from my layer flock, 1 EE & one Ooops (I have a hen who has figured out how to sneak into the other half of the coop and get w/ Sizzleboy so
a bunch of should be EE eggs are hatching out silkie, April fools on me).

Based on this I think I figured out the main problem I've been having was too low temp.
b/c the first hatcher in this group my first ever egg from the hen Ugly hatched an entire day EARLY.
This group of eggs "got roasted" b/c I was super busy & the weather soared from snow to 80 degrees outside & it didn't cross my mind to adjust the bator.
I've got about a doz thermometers, no 2 read alike, I was using the one I thought most accurate & per it these eggs spent a great deal of time at 104 as in weeks,
clearly it reads low, so when it says 104 it means some other temp which is actually correct for the top of the eggs in the LG :) at least I know this now!!!
