You can't always see anything at day 4. It's much easier to see at day 7, but even then sometimes it's tricky. I never remove an egg until day 14, unless its leaky or smelly, and then I remove infertile eggs and early quitters.

You do not have to candle. Lots of people never candle. But I think it's good to candle if you can pick out undeveloping or cracked eggs before they go bad. Bad eggs can literally explode, and contaminate your whole incubator. I've had them explode in my hand. I do not recommend this experience. Really dark eggs can be difficult or even impossible to candle. In those instances I smell them and then put them back in the bator. You will know a bad egg when you smell it. Often before they start to smell, they leak a little, or you might see little beads of liquid on the egg.Do you have to candle? I am nervous to do it. I tried it on one egg b/c it looked a little compromised, but I was very clumsy and am afraid physics and statistics will not be on my side if i try to do 13. I planned to do it on Day 14 as they are dark brown eggs.
I haven't posted much on this thread but check it very frequently...Peggysue-(my fiancee) and I did our first turn today we decided to do it once today which is days 3 and then tomorrow we will turn 3in times a days til lockdown...getting so anxious and there is so much time left!! Can't wait to candle on Sunday or Monday! Although it is so hard to not go home tonight and do it!
I know the feeling! Ours hit 102 on the first day but luckily it was for about 30 minutes max. We are kinda worried for the weekend cause we are supposed to get a warm up so we are hoping everything stays stable!![]()
I will be waiting to candle too, sat or sun for me. My bator has been climbing up to 102 overnight, probably not for very long at that temp but I still don't like it![]()
I have been fiddling with the gauge so hopefully tonight will be the magic night that it doesn't rise too much hah.
I hope you have good luck getting your tempts right. That has got to be stressfull and frustrating. Sending good luck your way.![]()

what kind of bator do you have?
Mine has been going up at night too. It's been hitting 101 at the top of the eggs. During the day it usually stays at 99 at the bottom and 100 at the top. Hopefully it doesnt rise again for you tonight![]()
