I set 28 more Rainbow layers & 9 from my girls plus 5 more quail. Already had 6 quail in due between the 23rd & 28th. The little EE from my banties (I forget who asked about it right now) is right above the quail. Eggs from my layers are the 3 cream colored in the 2nd row down on the right, the 3 tan right below & the 2 light tan banty eggs just above the EE banty. That is a PURPLE egg from the rainbow layers above my EE banty.

Do you have a close up pic of the egg you call purple? I also looked at the add you have up. Its hard to see the purple and was curious about it. What breed or cross does it come from?

Apparently it's 1 of the Cuckoo Marans crossed with an Ameraucana, but we can't be certain. She only has 1 hen laying this color so they are rare. It's a chocolate based egg with a purplish coating & occasionally lavender speckles. I've tried to get pix of it but my cell doesn't do a very good job with retaining the color. It is a darker egg with a purple cast to it. I know it wasn't a random occurrence now that I have seen it in both batches of eggs. She has 1 hen throwing purple eggs.

Woohoo for you & Gracie! You'll be so proud of her when she hatches out her clutch, oooh I love a good broody hen doing her job :)

I saw the pics. on your sale page earlier, those are a great range of colors, great price etc. I've got my bator full up now, and some other plans lined up, but if I don't get the colored egg layers I'm expecting then I know where to find them-- your place ;>

& PURPLE , not only is that cool, but it is my DH's fav. color, a ha! yet another plot to win him over by the chickens,
now I'm gonna whisper some advice about laying purple eggs to the Maran x Ameraucana eggs in my bator right now
(which I'll be candling again tonight...day 10)

I just candled tonight (after threatening the lives of the little heathens who lost my flashlight if it didn't miraculously reappear very quickly, which then took my daughter all of 15 seconds to find) and here are the results from the 48 Rainbow eggs (bear in mind that most are so dark I can see only darkening masses & some I can barely even locate an air cell):
2 appeared to be clear
3 had possible bloodrings
8-10 had visible veining (at least to my daughter's young eyes, my old ones were having trouble)
1-2 had possible wiggling babies (again, daughter's eyes are better than mine in the dark)
everything else had at least a darkening mass that filled close to 1/2 of each egg

Nothing has been tossed yet except 1 egg from my girls that went in 2 days after everything else & then I found a crack in it 2 days later. My 1 remaining egg from my hens in that bator appears to be clear as well but didn't get counted with the Rainbow eggs.

I now have 28 more Rainbow eggs in the bator set today plus 11 of mine & 5 of my quail. I set another EE bantam & the very 1st egg from my Cuckoo Showgirl roo's pen since I separated everyone into their breeding pens after the move. It's possible 1 of my other 3 roos could have gotten her before I separated them but since that was almost 2 weeks ago it's most likely my Cuckoo roo if it's fertile
.
This batch will be due 2/5 & the quail are due 2/2.

Glad you found the flashlight... funny how quick they show up when the right motivation is used!
