Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

This seems to be the rule our house too. My husband says I am a notorious "watched pot" person. I have no patience. I will stand next to the stove and get impatient and yell "BOIL!" Last night I was sitting next to the bator for about 30 minutes and got frustrated and yelled "HATCH!" I guess, if patience is a virtue then I am definitely lacking in that area. It's kind of a running joke in our house. The more I watched the less anything happened. So I kept myself very busy. Now I have a clean house and lots of chicks to stare at. Have a fun weekend with your new fluffy butts!

Haha that is me! I have some patience but when it comes to chicks hatching i have no patience at all.i wish i had more things to do lol

Is it warm enough for them to be outside without heat? Mine are the same age but our temps are still 20 - 30 degrees. BUT MY BATHROOM HAS 3 SEPARATE CAGES WITH CHICKS IN THEM!!!!!!!!!!! UGH! This week end we are planning to build a brooder like cage for the screened in back porch and make it so we can close them in like maybe 3 x 3 ft box if it's really cold but let them out in a 6 ft run if it's not. I have in mind like a big rabbit cage. I never intended to start hatching this early.

Oh, they have heat. There are 2 X 250 watt heat lamps hanging over them. I've had the window open and the heat off in the bathroom for the last couple days to acclimate them a bit. They're doing great. The coop is fairly airtight and has an insulated roof too. I was up to 5 bins with 6 in each and dang, was it gettin' stinky... Their space is about 4x8.

Great. Dividers in the incubator not working at all. Everyone getting mixed up!!!! Grrrrrrrr..... I had certain eggs I wanted to keep the chicks from and now I'm not positive who's who. However, we do have 10 chicks so far! Both Ameraucana X are out :)

So far Benny its theonly one to have hatched but we are pretty sure two other eggs are still wobbling hopefully Benny dries off soon so we can take him out so he isn't bowling with his baby brothers or sisters anymore

So we were wondering about how we could include benny with our other chicks that are almost 4 weeks...especially if no others chicks hatch. We don't want benny to be lonely! Any ideas??

On several different occasions, in the last month, I put chicks of different ages together. I think just the first time I really had to watch them. The larger ones wouldn't stop pecking the little one's feet. We observed them for several hours and I intervened a couple times but then everything's been fine. We were able to move the pen in the living room so it as easy for us. If your pen is larger, construct something so the little one can get under or somehow a away from the others for safety. I've had such staggered hatches this is an ongoing problem for me. If you are keeping them separate, try keeping them close enough to see each other and/or I put a bigger mirror in and the little one's that were alone and liked talking to their own image. (Twice I had just 1 hatch and kept it by itself and in a coupl3 day's it died. Take the chance of trying to keep them close to each other) I'll try to find a pic where I had them separate but together. Sorry, the post is so long. sue
