Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

What color are your chicks? Ours were mostly black we were kinda worried they wouldn't turn the golden color...but with almost all her feathers she is mostly the golden color
started out med. grey w/ gold dot on head
gold/yellow spread to face
then wing feathers started all gold at first, as the got longer the gold is on the ends w/ the higher up part grey
tummy fluf has lightened up to light grey also, or maybe just in contrast now.
pics tomorrow, really :)

ok ours are 2 wks behind so I can imagine they will look this way in 2 wks.
I actually DID get DH to take photos of them today, have to get from camera to post here as a distraction tomorrow...I'm sure everyone is holding their breath to see 'em , not ;P
But I will post & you can tell me if its how yours looked @ 2wks...
Wrong! Turning blue here!! Waiting for pics!

They are doing great!

My nephew being silly. And one of the Buff Orpingtons I traded my neighbor for.

I absolutely love this pic. Such personality!!

I haven't posted any pics from our very first hatch in a while but here one of my girls are from that hatch!
They are very friendly. They run up to my hand every time I reach into their big brooder. They'll be going out into the grow out pen in a couple days. They should already be out there. But i've been a worry wart about the weather.

She was getting curious about my phone.
OMG!!! So cute! Love the pics... looks like the little guy was having a blast with the new chicks....

Here is our lakenvelder
Pretty feathering! Of course, we could use more pics to be sure!

Ok so I have 33 eggs in LG#1 going to LD TUE, & rest that are a few days behind also in LG#1 total 41

In LG#2 I have 4 diff set dates, about 35 eggs (need to candle shortly)

I MUST MOVE THESE , to a totally diff. room, in the next 10 hrs.

We are allowing a young couple who through no fault of their own ended up penniless & homeless, w/ the wife due to have a baby in 5 WEEKS move into that room,
so she has a safe place for the rest of the pregnancy & after the baby is born for awhile until they can get on their feet. This was obviously not planned when I set these eggs.
They couple's living situation sharing w/ others just got un-safe yesterday to the point there was no choice really given the baby on the way.

So, how in the world am I gonna MOVE 74 or whatever developing eggs & 2 bators across the house??
I think I'll have to combine it w/ early LD into hatchers for the first group of eggs...I guess, its the best thing I can come up w/
move the a few eggs at a time, really carefully yet quickly.

Anyone have any other brilliant ideas how to do this? My brain is fried from puzzling out how to get the homeless, carless, penniless preggo couple through a blizzard from 3 states away to my house in less than 24 hrs, somehow moving live eggs is like one straw too many...
It will not hurt your eggs at all for you to set them all in cartons while you move the bators & then return them to the bator. Just think of it as momma broody taking a eat/poop break.

I would make sure you have several people to help you... myabe line a basket well with towels, put eggs in and top with another towel, then move bator and put eggs back in. I think the key is cushion them, and don't let them chill too long. They get moved when you candle them, so you should be just fine as long as you're slow and steady with the move.

Kudos to you for helping them out. We've opened out home three times in the past to friends and family in need, and although it take a little getting used to and changes in schedule, it's been worth it each time. my biggest suggestion for you is establish a timeline right away. Even if you change it later, it helps to give goals to lives in turmoil. We made this mstake and some of out friends are currently making this mistake and and trust me, it's hard to get folks moving when you know they should be if they don't have a when, even if you know they have the best of intentions.

That is pretty much how ours started. Unfortunately ours may be a rooster.. so since your feathers are more gold on the wing maybe you lucked out and got a hen! Who knows thoug lol hopefully ours end up being a hen! Would love to see your chick they are beautiful birds! Waiting for pictures! :D

Somehow my bator got turned up to 120F. Not sure how long it was that way as I'm short a thermometer & have to move them from bator to bator to check temps. Everything was dead. I really HAVE to get another thermometer today when I hit Rural King for feed.

Oh man, thats not good! How frustrating! I think I would beat my head against a brick wall too. How far along were the eggs?

I've had so much temp flux in this particular bator it's not even funny. The few that were left were in lockdown. I had 14 quail left out of 29 & 3 chicken out of 28. This bator is getting unplugged & finding a new home. The top of my daughter's dresser just isn't working. I think it's vibrating the knob when she opens & closes the drawers.

wow sorry to hear that :(

I had a small temp. spike myself in the LG w/ all the important eggs right after I candled them sunday eve I woke up w/ a bad feeling at 4am & found it,
not sure how long but the eggs felt hot the bator was maybe 104 , I got them cooled fast but I haven't had the heart to re-candle since, I had to move them all Mon afternoon
& I still couldn't bring myself to check, LD is tonight so I will grit my teeth & hope as I do a candle & see if I should bother w/ LD or go cry in a corner...
