Day 11

candled the eggs and had to remove 6 more eggs, luckily they were the eggs that I didn't think were developing. They were undeveloped on eggtopsy as well. Unfortunately they were my blue eggs. Only 1 out of 8 of the blue eggs is developing. I did see that of the ones I removed, two of them had mobile air cells. I'm assuming that they got "scrambled" during delivery.

I'm down to 19 of the original 34 eggs. I see a short dark line in two of my black copper maran eggs, not sure if blood line or normal vessel.

So I have a question.... I have my eggs in the incubator and I currently have a brooder with 15 2 weeks old chicks I ordered from my pet chicken...Once my babies hatch can I put them in the same brooder? I will have a separated brooder set up, was thinking around 1 week old I would try to combine them...or should I try to keep them separate till I move them to the coop and integrate them all at that time?!

Started with 24 catdance silkies think I'm down to 13 and then I have 5 ameraucana eggs given to me by a BYC member..They are staggered by 5 days

Right now, I have 23 of my own back yard mix going - I wanted to try them out before I bought eggs and had them shipped. I have 12+ Wheaten's that are being shipped today and then next Tuesday, I have 30+ blue/olive green eggs coming so I'm going to end up having a staggered hatch the next go round. I'm building a second incubator today so that I can manage these more effectively. My poor office is not going to have room for me in it at this rate! It's already a tiny room - and adding two incubators and a brooder box are just filling it right up! HAHA

I'm very excited about this whole process..... :)

I am just watching air cells on my bcms. The clear ones are pretty obvious at this point and I will do a float test on questionable ones at lockdown if I can't hear them by then.

I was told up to 3 weeks should not be a problem. I just put 3 day olds in with 3 wk olds with no problems at all. My bigger kids DID check extensively to see if the babies toes were mealworms but no harm done. I won't give mealworms to chicks in brooders anymore if I plan to add babies, just to avoid it in the future.

That's great Cyndiloowho, we're hatching buddies.)

If the chicks are only two weeks apart then it shouldn't be a problem. Just watch them for a day or two. The biggest issue is when they are too far apart in size, the little ones will get pushed around. Also, the longer you wait to combine the chicks the more they have developed their own "clicks" leading to more fights.

Btw, I'm still having trouble seeing the air cells even in my white eggs. Maybe it's how I'm candling? I hold the flashlight under the egg. Should I tilt it or shine from the top? I'll try again tonight.

humidity has remained pretty stable at 47-50%

I would shine that flashlight all over the egg.
To see the air cell you need to shine from the top (blunt end). I am not tipping my eggs because I have shipped eggs with terrible air cells, but normally I gently tip them and shine the light all over to watch for movement, quitters, and such.

QUESTION!!!! I candled at day 6 or 7 I believe and I could see veins in all of them but 1, and I could see movement in them about 2 days after. One egg is very dark and I haven't been able to see anything from day 1! I thought, I saw some veins on day 7 or 8, but not sure...! Now I am on day 12, and excuse me if this is a stupid question but this my first time, but I can't really see anything in any of them-just this dark blob in all of the eggs! I can see some veins in a couple of them if I tilt if just right (the veins are off to the side a little). IS THIS NORMAL??? Thanks everyone I really hope I didn't mess something up along the lines, but temps and humidity have been perfect!!
