Thank you. I think my light was just not bright enough. What I could see looked pretty dark, so I am going to *hope* that means there is something happening inside.

I had to move my broody again tonight, because the place I had separated her to previously was not separate enough. 2 other hens kept breaking in to lay their eggs in her nest.

I took today off work and cleaned out a small shed where I moved her to after dark. She settled in nicely and will have a very separate area for her and her potential chicks!
Fingers crossed :)

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I've candled a few today before I left for work and the ones I can see through look fantastic.

Can't wait to meet these little guys!

Three of my four eggs have started to rock. One is a large egg with a comparitively small air cell which worries me. That's actually the one that seems to be rocking the hardest. When I candled yesterday morning it seemed to be the smallest chick also, so I hope that he has enough leverage to reach the air cell. Well he seems to know Kung Fu as he's been kicking around like crazy for the last 3 hours that I've noticed. I wasn't going to go into lockdown until tonight, but decided to leave them be. Good thing I prepped the incubator for hatch this morning. I'm hoping his air cell is getting a bit larger so I haven't added any extra water yet, but will put it up tonight just in case he pips while I'm sleeping. They rock more if I cheep to them or talk in a high pitched voice. So cute. Well it's only day 18 so I'm betting they've got at least a day or three more to go. I'm hoping they make it out okay. So nervous.

Got a better light. I think they're all duds except maybe 2 and even those look pretty bad. My egg shells are thick, so all hope is not lost, but it's day 11. I should be seeing more now based on what I saw last time :(

I did my last candling of the eggs last night in prep. of lock down tonight and out of all the eggs i started with I'm down to 5. pulled 5 out that were either clear or had stopped developing. out of the 5 remaining eggs I have 4 bcm and 1 orpington egg. I really hope they all hatch and are girls

. I live in town so I don't have any roos :( the waiting for them to hatch i swear is the hardest part of incubating, days 1-18 easy cause not much is going on that I cant see but the last few days are nerve wracking watching and wondering did I really see it move or was that just wishful thinking and then when they start to pip its the worry of are they stuck or just resting?

Good luck everyone!

I just finished my candling, I'm doing a staggered hatch so some are on day 16, and some on day 14. Of the 21 eggs on day 16, I've still got 15 good ones, and 2 iffy ones. The younger batch isn't fairing so well, I think between the post office's "gentle" handling and the cold snap we had just when the eggs were being shipping took it toll. Of the 12 shipped eggs, I only have 1 for sure and 1 iffy. The 5 from my hens are doing great.

So all in all, I set 35 and am down to 24.

Day 16
2 Rhodebar
2 Lemon Cuckoo Orp
6 Rhode Island White x EE
6 Super EE
1 Black Copper Marans x EE (not sure, egg is dark)

Day 14
1 Cream Legbar
1 Black Birchen Marans (not sure, egg is dark)
3 Rhode Island White x EE
2 Super EE

I'm moving them all out of turners on Wednesday, which will be day 18 for the biggest batch.

I totally agree. Days 18-21 are the hardest!

I know, right? I made a vow not to candle again until day 18. It lasted about 16 hours. Lockdown KILLS ME! What day are you on now?

It's day 13 and I saw movement!

5 eggs are a "probably"
5 eggs are a "maybe"
3 eggs are "probably not"

I think all 3 of my banty eggs are either a no, or a probably not :( I was really hoping for phantom to have chicken children, because she's SO DARNED CALM AND FRIENDLY!

How is everyone else doing?

its half way through day 19 now i keep finding my self walking over to the incubator to peek in, of course nothings going on yet but I have to look just in case. In all the hatches that I've done I dont think I've ever had one hatch early but this time you never know so I have to look, right? My 4 yr old just noticed the eggs in the incubator yesterday and was running around singing "we have baby eggs! " I think its so funny that for the last 2 and a half weeks she hasn't noticed the eggs but once the turner was shut off she noticed them :). I spent the morning distracting my self working on a cup watering system for my flock . I had to build a support thingy for the 55gallon barrel the I'm using as the water source. My first attempt yesterday was something less than stable so.... had to bring out the big girl tools and actually build a support :) I'm sure my neighbors wonder about me sometimes.
