So now that the one chick is out it has managed to roll some of the other pipped eggs clear across the brooder. In the picture he/she was next to an egg carton but the cochin eggs are out laying on the wire bator floor rolling around.

I am worried. I hope this does not hurt the hatch. I guess it is pretty normal though. Well as least I hope so.

FortWorthChicks, when the chicks start to roll the egg everywear i usually take them out of the incubator and in to the brooder

We will be going into lockdown tomorrow night. We are getting SOOOOO excited. We have 5 Rhode Island Reds, 5 Barred Rock and 2 Auracana. My one daughter just wants them to hatch so she can hold them. Lockdown is going to kill us in suspense.

Luke,
Everyone is right. The chicks developing is completely out of our control. God gives us children with disabilities, some born early, some born late, some never born and have to say it is no different with any living thing. Hang in there and gives those other chicks extra love for that one.

Already?? WOW! Does that happen often? That's technically what, just short of day 19?

I went to lockdown last night around 8 p.m. - I know it's late, but I'd like to join you! Here's what I have:

2 - white silkie roo/gold laced Polish hen cross
5 - white cochin bantam roo/standard Ameraucana hens blue and black (guess that makes the chick a Cochicauna??)
5 - Ameraucana black hens and blue hens - Ameraucana roo either my black or my splash

I decided not to open up the bator and get the chick out... I think that the drop in humidity could be worse than being rolled around. A second chick has hatched so the rolling eggs apparently still hatch!

Yippie... two chicks so far!!! and I got to see both of em hatch.

Actually I was worried about this too since our chicks were rolling the pipped eggs all over too. One of our eggs had zipped a little and was having a really hard time, not making any progress at all. You could hear it peeping in there, I was really getting worried, well, here comes the little one....it starts pecking the area where the chick had zipped and got it started up again where the little guy could get out. It was pretty sweet looking, but who know if it was really trying to help or just saw something neat to peck at

Thought I'd share a few photos. We are at five babies and three with pips

Here's one that had just came out.

This one is starting to dry off.

Here's some of the others.

Lock down is tonight after my husband gets home for the other incubator that has 4 salmon faverolles and 5 silkies. Kind of worried because the silkies were put in two days later but some people have said bantam eggs can go two days earlier than standards, so we'll see how it goes
