on the 3rd as well. I have 1 MF d'Uccle, and 4 mutts. I know the MFD is developing, b/c I can see in it and see the veins. The others who knows. I have tried 3 different times and something always happened. I don't want to put my chickens before the eggs or anything, but I have a good feeling abou this one. So go us!!!!

Since we are all in this together someone please answer this question. I know it will sound silly, but they say the only silly one is the not asked one. When you are setting your eggs, when or what or how do you start your calculation. In other words, I set my eggs wednesday (2/11) afternoon. Does that count as day one or is it 24 hours later. I started counting that day so by my calculation, it they work,

, they should hatch on the 3rd of March. I am looking for it to happen that day, but will not worry until a day or two past that. I just would like to know for lockdown purposes on day 18. Also when lockdown begins, should that be the day that I raise my humidity or do it on day 20. Sorry to ask so many questions, but looking at one of my eggs, I can see some veining. This will be the first for me and with all that can go wrong, I dont want to add any more trouble..

I think they saw that anything before say 2pm is day one anything after that then the next day is day one. Does that make sense? Hope I said that right

By the way, I've got a full bator and this is our first time ever hatching. My 18 bbs orpingtons are due the 2nd my husbands 8 salmon faverolles are due the 5th and my sons 17 assorties silkie bantams are due the 7th. We are using a hovabator 1588 with turner and I am planning on getting a little giant (I think) for lockdown since the eggs are staggered. I have some candling questions for you guys if you can help. The kids built a candler for a science project and we've been using this but the brown eggs are harder to see through. I see half of the egg is dark and the bottom light. The dark half has a spot with veining starting. Is this dark half what I'm looking for in these eggs this early?? Thanks for the help and good luck to all of you.

Yes it does make sense. I have some brown eggs as well and it is hard to see what's going on. It would be safe to say however (from what I understand) if you see veining (lucky you), they are so far so good. As far as the 1/2 and 1/2 coloring, I don't know. Let's just stick with the YAH, you see veining so far. Hopefully, someone can help.

So my chickies are due now on the 4th and not the third. As if the wait was not long enough as it is, let's just add ANOTHER DAY!!!

Billyj I'm doing my first attempt also, started the 2nd, and like you I was concerned about what I was seeing when I candled,( brown eggs) there was a time all I could see was a cloudy area in the top half of the egg. but later like at day 11 with a strong enough light and a dark room, I could actually see the chick moving in the egg. also at that time I could determine that 4 of the eggs are probably not fertile they were not dark anyplace inside. Good luck everyone.

Just added my first set of eggs to my incubator...haven't done this in about 10 yrs....OMG..I added 8 standard Partridge Cochin eggs, 5 salmon Faverolles, and 8 Ameraucaunas...all standard chickens..I'll add the bantams in 2 days since they hatch about 2 days earlier....so they'll all come out together if I have done everything right...

I don't know if this is any indication, but there is an obvious dark area in my brown eggs. I think it is mostly yolk, but I am hoping it is more. Since I messed up on my hatching day calculation, I am only on day 5 right now. I am going to candle again in a few days and hopefully that will let me know for sure. Keep up the good work and let's get them chickies here already!!!!!

Day 5 and I see swimming in 4 of my eggs!

I can see the veining a little easier on some of the others, but there are still some that just look dark. Then there are 3 that still look kind of clear. I'm so excited about seeing the little swimmers
