hatch along with me!!!! march 3rd is hatch date :) PIPING ALLREADY!!!!

We (me and my 6y.o. daughter) would like to join in, just set 40 eggs today ( 19 Australorps, 12 RIR, 9 Anaconna's and 3 OE bantoms)didn't realize they hatch two days earlier, any suggestions what to do now that they are already in there as far as lock down? Do we still lock down on day 18, or can I take the bantams out they have only been in the bator about an hour?

kid-n-chickens,

Of the 7 i put in, 3 didn't work, and I accidentally dropped on that was. so sad. As of right now i have 3 left. 2 of which are doing fine, and 1 i still cannot tell. Hard to see through. However with that one, it is not clear and I do see a little veining. I hope it is ok.

Hey gang, I snuck under the hens last night and candled 2 of the 4 eggs they're sitting on and both have embryos wiggling about, just like in the candling videos! Now I see how folks can get hooked on hatching eggs because my heart was racing and I couldn't talk I was so excited! They should call that state "Hatching Highs"! It's better than drugs! LOL

Thought the eggs were due on March 4th after 21 days ... but since they're silkie bantams, I guess they hatch on March 1st, 3 days earlier, yes?

Good luck ya'll!

Laney what kind of humidity are you maintaining for the first 18 days? With so many late quiters, you might want to take a look at the "dry hatch" philosophy. I only found this thread for you https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3325689 but I know there is a lot more on the forums about it.
The guy I got my eggs from said he went from 40% hatches to 90-10% hatches when he did this. Certainly, shipped eggs won't likely every give you a really high hatch rate, but if you aren't already doing this, you may want to look into it.
I can't give you my experience with it, because this is my first hatch with a bator. I am keeping humidity between 25% and 35%. Usually it is between 25% and 31%.

When you said that your chicks developed but then quit in the last few days, it reminded me of what I had read about humidity being too high. Hope this helps you, or someone else.

I am sure there are differing opinions on this, so you will have to read up on it and see what you think.

BTW, I candled yesterday and marked all the eggs that were developing. I found a swimmer in one that I had previously thought was clear!!

I still have one that is too darkly speckled to see anything at all.

So, I actually have 15 that are developing!! And just a few days ago, I thought I had only 2!! What a beginner!!!

We are really excited about the little white egg from a Polish chicken. The rooster is a Wheaton Ameraucana. Should be an interesting little chick. Hope it makes it!! Of course with my luck, it will be a rooster!

The bator got a little too warm last night, so I hope they are okay.

Sounds like things are progress pretty well for most of us.--I went in to lock down this morning --chicks due tuesday evening. But I have a question. I've got 44 eggs in a Little Giant bator. with the water dish and sponge to keep moisture up. its FULL. I have all the air holes on top open.--Heres the question----will there be enough oxegen ( is that the right spelling-- for nessaciary air)

. ---heck I blew that word to I think--oh well its great to be among friends. Well? what do you think will it or should I make a few more.
Your thought appreciated

Hey Luke and company. I have 3 pipped eggs . 21 days is tomorrow evening. so maybe I'll actually get some chicks.First attempt at incubating. This is pretty cool, but will feel better when I actually have little guys out and about.
take care
Jerry

5 pipped but no escapies. The first one still only has a hole where his beak is, no progress . its been 8 hours. is this unusual? day 21 is actually up at 7:00 this evening. should i get worried about that chick yet?
