Hatch and die?

They'll find it especially if you have it close by. mama will see to it. I love it when they poke their heads through their mamas feathers to look at us, so cute.
I also believe that they should find it, in seven years I had no duckling that could not find food, but there is always that little doubt. But you are reassuring me and that calms me down

Winter ducklings are quite an adventure.

That is really adorable when they do that, struggling their way up under mama duck's wing until they sit on her back.

I still don't know how many ducklings have hatched in total. I think I may have seen some new faces over the day and the space under the mother seems to be quite packed, but she did not move from the nest and I suspect that never all ducklings were showing themselves at once.

It took me a week of so to realize that I had 13 not the 12 I'd originally thought. With the running around, hiding under mom and the fact that they all looked the same, counting was difficult. ;)

i'm sure it was. they move fast.

I just got news from my dad (my parents take care of the ducklings during the week when I am at the University and thus not in my home town).

He found an additional dead duckling between the remaining eggs which will get removed tomorrow and today one of the six died. They also do not seem to eat well, but I remember that in the first week the food bowl was never empty.

I hope I can let the family out on the weekend so I can finally take pictures.
